of Darling Harbor, Cockle Bay is a lively area. Lined with pubs and
bars, plus one of the city's best clubs, it's a waterside wonderland
During the 2000 Summer Olympic Games it was the center of revelry.
Pubs
Want to find a Sydneysider on a Friday afternoon? Head to the Pontoon
Bar in Cockle Bay. It's close proximity to the CBD and waterside
location have made it THE place for post-work cocktails.
Beyond Cockle Bay, the style of a true Sydney neighborhood can be experienced
just to the west of the CBD and Darling Harbour. Balmain is a
pubber's paradise: there are 23 pubs in a 15-minute walking radius.
There is The Dry Dock, The London, The Monkey Bar, The Unity Hall,
The Town Hall, The Exchange Hotel with it's very cool Safari
Bar, Dick's Hotel, The William Wallace, The Three Weeds (Rose, Shamrock
& Thistle), The Welcome Hotel, The Bridge Hotel, The Bald Rock Hotel,
The Cat & Fiddle and The West End, all of which are popular
among the locals.
Clubs
Home is the first purpose-built nightclub for Sydney and while
others have copied, none perfected.

Sunday nights which is gay/lesbian with the most fantastical selection
of Sydney's best drag queens and queens that just want to be dragged.
Friday and Saturday night are huge for a more mixed and retro crowd,
who happily join the long queue just to get in and sacrifice $25 for
the door charge week after week.
Close your eyes and picture the most magical cubby house you could,
complete with little caves, a rabbit warren of rooms, funky round chairs,
turn on some strobe lights, bring in the highest quality sound system
in Sydney, latest mixes out of London and NYC playing in each room and
voila you have Home!
With dance floors on three levels, the Cockle Bay Wharf is the
largest club in Sydney. It's waterside location makes it a seriously
stylish dance spot.
Adjacent to Cockle Bay is The Chinese Laundry, an underground
club with a definite underground feel. It's the land of the clubbers,
but in order to offer something for everyone, it has an upscale pub
upstairs, the Slip Inn in Sussex Street. Still, the pubbers are
long gone before even the clubbers arrive.
Just up the road is The Forbes, CBD Bar, and Jacksons-On-George,
all of which are popular dance spots.
