Chicago fans celebrate – and party – the team's first title since 1961.
Fourty-nine years of frustration, near frustration and not-near elation all broke loose when the Chicago Blackhawks broke through and defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 to win the franchise's first Stanley Cup sine 1961.
The last NJL hockey championship came before color TV was commonplace in American households. Before the Civil Rights movement. Long before a man landed on the moon.
It couldn't be better for long-suffering Blackhawk fans.
So it stands to reason that Chicagoans went wild when the Balckhawks finally prevailed in 2010.. In overtime, of course. In Chicago, championships are earned the hard way. And that makes them much so more rewarding.
