Honolulu Bars, Pubs & Clubs
Where to Go Out – and When – in Oahu

Look for PubClubettes at Honolulu's best pubs and clubs.

Visions of sitting under palm trees having boat drinks with pineapples and umbrellas sticking out of the glass being delivered by a waitress in a hula skirt is an intoxicating image of pubclubbing in Honolulu. While it's a vistion that becomes reality, there is certainly much more this town has to offer in its many pubs, bars and clubs.

This is the heart and soul of our virtual guide Honolulu, the best and coolest places to enjoy not only tropical drinks but good, cold beer, as well. This page defines the hip and hot places to be each night of the week. In the separate Pubs and Clubs sections, we tell why these are good places and detail many more fine watering holes. It is worth nothing that Duke's is a good choice anytime in the daytime and Lulu's Surf Club is leid-back Waikiki at night.

And here's a news flash – local promoter Flash (yes, that's his name) hosts several top-notch events on different nights at various venues. Information is under the banner of Skyline Two.

Tropical drinks make partying in Honolulu a fun experience.

• Friday. See Happy Hour below, followed by pubbling or clubbing. Upscale eye candy at the W Hotel. First Friday Night, on the first Friday of each month, closes Nuvanu Avenue for strolls through art shops and other downtown spots. Click here for more about First Friday.
Saturday. Bloody marys at The Harbor Pub, mai tais at the Mai Tai Bar (Royal Hawaiian), drinks at Duke's and a booze cruze. Okay, this could be any day. Then pubbing or clubbing at places like Lulu's.
Sunday. Champagne with brunch at the Royal Hawaiian, afternoon at Duke's for the live band, then (if still standing) the Brew Moon or Venus aftter 10 p.m.

You may meet the PubClubettes when out in Honolulu!

• Monday: Booze cruise followed by SIN night at Lulu's Surf Club.,
• Tuesday: Pearl for Ladies Night. Later – and more casual – it's Moose's for $1, $2, and $3 drinks.. Compadres recently (and suddenly) closed its doors, and with it the popular Taco Tuesday.
• Wednesday: The Mai Tai Bar iin the Ala Moana Shopping Center, Especially if there's a battle of the bands. For clubbing, locals don't bring their scruples into Scruples. On the North Shore, Banzai Sushi.
• Thursday: Sansai sushi restaurant in the Marriott.
• Happy Hour: Dollar beers at The Harbor Pub, then sunsets and $6 appetizers at the Chart House. Dollar Beers as The Hideaway, a locals' dive at the beginning of Waikiki (6-7 p.m.), Giovanni Pastrami (Waikiki Beach Walk) has daily Happy Hour fro 4-7 with and free pizza (Round Table) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. $3.50 mai tais, margaritas and well drinks even days a week at Lulu's, 3-6 p.m., plus $2 Steinlanger beers all day. $3 martinis at the Hyatt weekdays.

Special Party Events

The fun hardly stops here. Honolulu has a few special events during the year, as well. The best are:

• St. Patrick's Day. Who knew Honolulu has one of the best St. Paddy's celebrations in the world? PubClub, that's who!

• Summer Sand Bar Parties. A lot of those locals you see at the clubs spend some of their weekend days at this event. Boats and a band pull up to a sand bar and party all afternoon.

• The North Shore. It's a whole other world over there. Ya gotta know where to go but it's good.
