The Battle of the DJs
They spin. And the crowd shouts their approval. This is a not your normal disc jockey spinning tunes in a fun bar. Instead it's several DJs spinning tunes in a fun bar. And they are in competition with each other as Monster and Bud Light presented the Mai Tai Rumble DJ Battle, a battle of LA-area DJs, that took place each Thursday at the Mia Tai Bar in Long Beach, CA. Twelve finalists competed for $3,500 in cash and time in a recording studio. On Thursday, Aug. 26, DJ Dynamics of Los Angeles took the top prize. And the next day, he was off to Los Vegas for two days swith a guest of his choice, escorted around town by representatives of Monster energy drink. He beat out two other DJs, who made the finals after three weeks of preliminaries. Four DJs took the stage each Thursday, one right after another, from 9:30-11:30 p.m. The night's winners were announced - enhanced by an enthusiastic crowd – and advanced to the finals. The finalists were selected from more than 40 contenders throughout Los Angeles, Long Beach and Orange County. For the public, this was the opportunity to see some of the area's top DJs perform in a hip but casual setting full of the Aloha spirit that is the Mai Tai Bar, There was no cover charge for the events. The crowds got energized not only by the DJs but the Monster energy drink specials and prices of Bud and Bud Light for just $2.50 and Kona Longboard Lager for a mere $3. The Mai Tai bar also held a DJ Rumble at its location in Honolulu and is doing a Rumble for bands at its Daytona Beach location in September. The Mai Tai Bar is located at 97 Aquarium Way, across from the Aquarium of the Pacific and at the end of the "roller coaster" bridge. Below are photos from the events.
