Halloween Parties in L.A.
Fun – And Scary – Places to Party in 2010

A huge street party highlights Hollywood in L.A.

Los Angeles can be a frightening city.

Certainly, the freeways have spooked many a traveler over time.

So wait until you see it on Halloween. LA. is absolutely scary with the number of Halloween parties that take place in the city. There are two block parties, private events and, this year in Orange County, a big bash at the Fairgrounds. Amusement parks have haunted houses and don't overlook a mixer in a Hollywood cemetery.

It's a party – LA rocks on Halloween.

And with Halloween being on a Saturday night in 2009, this year will be an absolute scream!

• WEST HOLLYWOOD'S COSTUME CARNIVAL

It's LA's top event and one of the city's biggest parties of the year.

The city's largest celebration – by far – takes place on the 31st (Sunday this yea) Santa Monica Blvd., in West Hollywood. Approximately a half a million people turn out for this open street party.

Want to see costumes? Display a costume? This is the place. In fact, with Hollywood costume designers part of the crowd, it's one of the best spots in the entire country to see and be seen. And that's just sooo L.A. In 2010, there's a special parade for, and a stage dedicated to, the 35th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Santa is not nice, but naughty at West Hollywood's Carnival street party.

The event takes place between Doheny Dr. and La Cienega Blvd., from 6 p.m., until the midnight hour. Along the way are array of live music acts, contortionists, aerialists, stilt-walkers, DJs and illusionists will on stages scattered throughout the event. Most notably, Right Said Fred will bring "I’m Too Sexy" back and perform material from their new album.

The event brings out gays, straights, couples and single people on the prowl. It's fun, friendly and a bit frightening (the costumes).

• HALLOWEEN OC, ORANGE COUNTY

Beauties and not the beasts – oh, but the latter are there somewhere!

Friday
The haunted evenings begin at the Grove of Anaheim with a 2,500-person party called Volume that features electronic house music on four stages. It's a mega-club atmosphere with Go-Go dancers, two VIP areas and 13 DJs.

Admission is $20-100.

Saturday
The huge OC Fair & Event Center is the site for this massive party. As many as 10,000 people could make their way here for it. The 2010 event is Saturday, Oct. 30.

There are five stages, a whopping 24 bands and 17 DJs, several different party areas, a haunted pumpkin patch, Go-Go dancers, a $2,500 sexy costume contest, giveaways and, because it's expected to last until 4 in the morning – yes, 4 a.m. in L.A. – an after-hours breakfast.

A capacity of 10,000 makes this event a smashing hit.

It's the 16th year for this huge party. Cost is $40-60 (depending on when you buy them) for GA and $125-200 for VIP (again depending on when you buy them). The OC Fair & Event Center is located at 88 Fair Drive in Costa Mesa.

Okay, try and top the hosts' costumes at the Portofino.

Friday

Nearly all of Hermosa, Manhattan and Redondo Beach singles go to this annual event at the reception hall by the Portofino Hotel in King Harbor, Redondo Beach. Except this year it's across the street at the Crown Plaza Holiday Inn (larger area, the orgainzers proudly boast).

Three separate rooms, two with a dance floor, comprise this major party, which attracts a couple of thousand of locals looking to be couples for the night.

The big room has a band, the somewhat smaller one a DJ that plays really fun dance/party music and there's a "chill" room for, well, chilling out.

The scene here is for singles, though a few couples manage to make it through the door.

And, with a location right by the King Harbor marina, it has a nice place to escape and get to know that nurse, cop or rock musician one just met inside.

This year's event is on Friday, Rocktober 30. Admission is $40. This event always sells out in advance.

Saturday

An even bigger party takes place practically across the street the next night. It takes up pretty much the entire Crown Plaza in King Harbor with multiple rooms, dancing, Go-Go dancers, DJs.

Basically, the works. More than 1,000 people attend this Halloween costume ball bash.

Tickets are $30 in advance, $40 at the door and $200-300 for a reserved table (depending on location).
