Forty one years and running, Summerfest continued its amazing sounds of the summer in 2008, living up to its billing as the World's Largest Music Festival.

These girls provide beauty with the bands at 2008 Summerfest..

This year's event was from June 26-July 6 and it featured John Mellencamp, Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder, Rush and John Mayer, just to name a few artists. In all, hundreds of bands on six stages, including the impressive 23,000-capacity Marcus Amphitheater, all located in a downtown Milwaukee park along Lake Michigan.

On a few nights, it was as wet as it was wild, with thundershowers providing a few show-stopping moments on some of the nights. But that was short-lived, for when the likes of Mellencamp and Petty took the stage, it was shining – not the sun but their performance under the bright lights.

The prices were all the same as the past – $8 to get in, $5 for a beer or $6 for a 16-ounce bottle. There were also coupons available on a daily basis throughout town that offered more savings.

It sure was nice to see that with everything else costing more these days, Summerfest provided some welcome wallet relief. And while it didn't make the music sound any better or the beer colder, it sure helped to put – and keep – nice smiles on the tens of thousands of people who attended daily.

This article focuses specifically on the 2008 event and features several photos of the event and performers. For more on Summerfest, including a "Tips" box featuring everything from parking to what to bring, click on our Main story.
