Team Sharkeez
Rocks the Super Bowl 10K
Grass skirts and
buckets were winning attire for Team Sharkeez..
We won!
Okay, not the race and we're not Adam Venatieri, but we had a kick.
And one of our members captured the Costume Contest.
For the fourth consecutive year, PubClub teamed up with Sharkeez
cantinas to form Team Sharkeez in the 26th annual Super Bowl
10K. With nearly 10,000 participatants, it's the second-largest 10K
on the West Coast (one in Denver is bigger) and it's certainly the biggest
and best Super Bowl mobile party in the country. You can take all the
on-site event parties in the host city, the celebrity-studded Maxim
and bunny-hopping Playboy gatherings and anything else occuring on this
weekend but we can say, this is the best way to spend the day. Plus,
anyone can do it.
The
free spirt of the participants and the festive atmosphere of Super Bowl
Sunday make this a social outing mixed with a bit of excercise. Hundreds
ran in costumes a group of girls in wedding dresses as the "runaway
brides," a Kobe Bryant jailbird, Martha Stewarts in prison clothes,
a pimp chasing beefy guys dressed as ladies of the evening making
it an ideal warmup to the parties later in the day.
And of course, there was Team Sharkeez. Taking the theme of this fun
bar, our half-dozen participants donned grass skirts and decorated the
drink buckets with sharks and leis to serve as headgear. One team member
went all out she had a 2-foot tiki hat, which she wore while
running. That is, at least until our beer break at a pub halfway through
the race.
After finishing the 6.2 miles which included the gorgeous Esplanade
on a spectacular Southern California sunny Sunday morning we
kicked it into high gear in the beer garden. Yes, a beer garden after
a 10K. We then hustled off to patronize the sponsor, where we enjoyed
a killer breakfast, free champagne and huge $5 bloody marys.

We caught up with
the beautiful Runaway Brides in the beer garden.
Joined by the runaway brides and other 10K'ers, we were having so much
fun that we just tossed our our anchor and stayed to watch most of the
New England Patriots' thrilling 32-29 victory over the Carolina Panthers.
Still standing, we scooted off to the traditional South Bay post-Super
Bowl party, which once again was rocking, crowded and crazy.
For next year, we're looking to expand Team Sharkeez and add a new
element to the mix. But for this year, it was another Super Day on Super
Sunday.

Whacky is about
the only way to describe runners in the Super Bowl 10K.
Team Sharkeez in action just before pausing mid-race for a beer
break.

The beer garden is always a post-race highlight.

Outside of Sharkeez, we found a pair of parrots.

We're ready Team Sharkeez gathers ar the starting line.

During the game,
Sharkeez was the place to party.

The post-game bash
is a wild, crazy South Bay tradition.

SUPER BOWL GAME
ENTERTAINMENT
SUGGESTION
Here's our quick thought on the Super Bowl "entertainment"
before the game and during halftime.
Get rid of all those ego-inflated performers who put on wild shows
and care more about themselves than actually entertaining the fans and
viewers. Drop them all and hire Jimmy
Buffett.
He's fun, is a great entertainer, appeals to all ages and will put
everyone in a super mood.
Have him play for about 90 minutes in the parking lot before the game
to ensure everyone is in a festive mood. Then have him do a half-hour
show at halftime. You'll have Parrotheads glued to the TV like Ty Law
to a receiver. Heck, some would probably show up in grass skirts in
the parking lot just to tailgate.
The next Super Bowl is in Jacksonville. Buffett in Florida.
Perfect.
