Team Danny Kinda wins first Sixman Demonstration at the 2009 AVP Bud Light Open.

6-Man Demo at Manhattan Open
The Demonstration is a "Hit" at the AVP

This kind of on-the-court-fun is what makes the 6-man so entertaining.

In a nod to the craziness that also takes place at this same location – with many of the same players – the AVP for the first time had a four-team demo of the famous (or is it infamous) 6/man/Surfest tournament at the Croc's 2009 Bud Light Manhattan Beach Open.

Four teams played the outer courts on Sunday morning (but not too early; the matches were at 11 a.m.), with the two winners meeting on Stadium Court in the afternoon prior to the women's and men's finals.

It's goofy, but the 6-man level of play is outstanding.

Team Danny Kinda, wearing Fresh Brothes pizza shirts, bested the pink-and-blue shorts-clad Team Memphis, from the new MB restaurant.

Court change! Always a fun process for the 6-man.

That these teams arrived in the finals proved to be something of an upset, for they had to defeat defending champion Magnum PI (technically known as Team Magnum, which dons Tom Sellick moustaches, Detroit Tigers hats and aloha shirts) and perennial challenger Team Fletch, which dresses in wigs and Lakers uniforms.

Team Memphis even borrowed – some might call it stealing – one of Magnum's trademark music-on-a-wagon-with-sarcastic-announcer prop. Danny Kinda had a guy on electric guitar and a huge flag that was waved with the winning of big points. And the title.

Team Danny Kinda was too much for Memphis and Fletch.

And the fans ate it up, for Stadium Court was nearly as packed as it was for the men's final later in the afternoon, won by Sean "Rosie" Rosenthal and Jake Gibb.

The 2009 6-man/Surfest event is Aug. 1-2, on the Manhattan Beach Pier.
