The Best Time Ever!

The Whirlwind Weekend

Amsterdam – The Full Report

PubClub's London City & Bar Guide

By Amy Jones, Cal State-Fullerton Senior

Hello from the great city of London!

We are having a chilly week and let me tell you, scarves and gloves are my new best friends. It is even supposed to get to -5 degrees C this week! Crazy...it might even snow.

So here I am, in the warm computer lab, taking my sweet time to tell you all what I have been up to. So here we go!!!

TUESDAY-TATE BRITAIN

On Tuesday morning my art class went to the Tate Britain Museum. The Tate Galleries are a group of 5 different museums, each focusing on a certain time period and movement. The Tate Britain has tons of pre-raphealite and impressionist work. There are some amazing pieces there by Rothko and other great artists like Rembrandt and Rubens.

GLOBAL BATTLE OF THE BANDS

Bands from all over Europe competed for £10,000 – and were were there!

At night we went to the Global Battle of the Bands at the Mean Fiddler. It was a competition between 14 bands from all across Europe who were competing for £10,000 and the championship title. It was crazy to see bands from Spain, the Netherlands, Wales, Ireland, France, Scotland, etc all playing together. The band from Spain won but we all thought that this 2-man band from Scotland called MexEcho should have won. They were amazing.

When we got home it was rather late but I could not sleep so I ended up watching Bush's State of the Union Address. It was crazy watching that over here because so many people hate Bush over here. There are signs everywhere about taking Bush down and Stop Bush and stuff like that. It is really an amazing situation.

WEDNESDAY

During the day I went out to lunch at this restaurant called Texas Lone Star. It is supposed to be an American style restaurant but it wasn't really all that great. But, it still gave a little feeling of home. At night we had a couple of friends over to our flat and we just hung out and had a mellow night in. It was cool...I am really starting to get comfortable with all of the different people in the program and am making some good friends.

THURSDA

In the morning I learned the wonderful art of hand washing laundry. Over here it costs 5 pounds to do one small load (which is roughly $10 USD). So I spent an hour and a half washing all of my clothes. Fun times for sure.

LORD LEIGHTON'S HOUSE

After that I went to Lord Leighton's House. He is a famous artist from the 19th century and there is a lot of his work on exhibition there. Architecturally, the house is beautiful as well. After class I chilled at home and got some packing done because I had to be up at 4am on Friday to leave for Amsterdam.

Amy Jones is a Cal State-Fullerton student on an exchange program in London. She arrived in January and is filing regular reports for PubClub.com.
