Built beginning in 1357, with bricks
arching majestically over the Vltava River, the Charles Bridge is a
visual wonder, making it Prague's top landmark.
Named for Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, it is today
a bridge in not only as a structure, but as a culture. It is constantly
filled with tourists, who slowly stroll its cobblestones and pause to
hear local musicians, browse through portraits and jewelry for sale
from artists and simply enjoy the scenery and the scene. Climb its towers
for a grand view of Prague.
While it is only one of many bridges over the Vltava, it's unique architecture
work like magnet, drawing people to it and over it time and time again.

The same architect who so masterfully
designed the Charles Bridge planned another masterpiece, the Prague
Castle. Long home of the country's kings and still the heart of the
government, it sits on a hill overlooking the city.
Accessing it is a simple but steep 15-minute walk past
the Charles Bridge. The main entrance features the Changing of the Guard
each hour. Entering the grounds is free, though admission is required
to go inside the buildings, including the impressive cathedral.
While most people simply walk across the Charles Bridge to the castle,
it can also be approached from the large and lovely Letna Park.

People in Prague

Hanging by the river
on a sunny day.

Relaxing and waiting for a 30KC beer by the water.
The pace of Prague is defined in its
people. Locals and tourists alike move about in a pace so casual it
seems as if they just got off the beach in Hawaii.
And why be in a hurry? Once one's bearings are established and there's
enough confidence to explore the angled and crooked streets without
worrying about getting lost, Prague is an easy, breezy walking city.
Major landmarks are only about 10 minutes from each other and there's
plenty to see along the way.
Dining, shopping and dozens of places to enjoy a cold Czech beer make
the people smile. And keep them smiling.

The casual lifestyle of Prague can be seen all along its cobblestone
streets.

Every day on the hour, groups gather at the Astrology Clock in Old Town
Square.

Enjoying the view from a bar above the castle and near the monastery.

Pouring beers at
one of the city's many bars.
