Traditional pubs
such as The Shakespeare's Head are all over London.

MORE 'LAST ORDERS' AS PUBS OPEN LATE
England's long history of early-closing
pubs is over. Pubs and clubs for that matter can
now stay open as late as they wish under a new Licensing Act put
in effect in November. The law allows for establishments to serve
for 24 hours, but unlike all-hours Las Vegas, most places will
simply extend business hours by an hour or more. So the 11 o'clock
bell, followed by the phrase, "time please gentlemen,"
is ringing later in London.

There are three main types of places
to get loaded in London: Pubs, bars and dance clubs.
Pubs are primarily blue-collar places. Yet one is as as likely
to rub shoulders with a businessman as a rugby fan. Pubs are London's
original drinking establishments and may have a history as rich as the
city itself.
Bars are upscale establishments with people wearing the latest
style clothes. Black is always a safe bet here. Drink prices are hefty
and the crowd is generally young and impressive. Bars are primarily
after-work places, best between 6-11 on weekdays, and are popular for
pre-parties on Fridays.
Clubs fall into one of two categories: Funky, big places with
discriminating doormen, or sweaty, casual dance bars for the everyday
person. Don't worry about passing any inspection of a doorman to gain
entry at the latter. There is also a third version, kind of an upscale
cousin of the mega club, the private club. These are pretty much
an exclusive playground for members and celebrities, although they occasionally
allow in outside visitors.
One could wander around London for weeks on end and have a great time
discovering its many cool places. But why bother? Here's where to be
and when to be there:
Best Bars Best Nights
Monday: Onanon. Pronounced "on and on," this
seven-floor club is good any night but is really on each Monday.
Tuesday: Join the young and casual at Bar Rumba
for Latin night.
Wednesday: The Sanderson, an upscale bar in the
Soho's St. Martin Hotel. People bounce between there and St. Martin
Lane in the same hotel. For dancing, it's China White, a
semi-private club.
Thursday: China White (see above).
Friday/Saturday: Choose your type of pub, club or bar
featured in PubClub.
Sunday: Begin at Waxy O'Conner's (Piccadilly).
Is it a pub or a castle? Around 8, head to The Pitcher and Piano
in Fulham, a sweaty dance bar with casual and customers liquored up
to the max. Afterward, it's around the corner to Crock's, London's
premier pick-up place.
