Fans Asked to Vote on Their Favorite Memory

This downtown LA landmark has many memories in its 10-year history.

From Bruce Springsteen's first blast of his guitar in 1999 to the Los Angeles Lakers' NBA Championship in 2009, Staples Center has played host to some of the most memorable moments in this city's storied sports and entertainment history.

And now fans of the Lakers, King, Clippers and Sparks, shows of Madonna and Britney Spears, Michael Jackson's memorial, as well as the ESPN X-Games, the WTA Championships, the Pac-10 basketball tournament and any of the other hundreds of events that have been held here are being asked to vote on the single greatest moment in the arena, which this year is celebrating its 10-year anniversary.

"We're looking forward to hearing from everyone who has been to an event in this building or who has seen an event in this building on TV," said Staples Center General Manager Lee Zeidman.

So what is greatest moment from some of the people who helped create them?

Derek Fisher, the point guard, makes a point at the press conference.

Derek Fisher, the Laker point guard – who has practically made a career out of making memorable moments – said his favorite is from the 99-00 season after the Lakers clinched the NBA Championship here, the team's first title since 1988. "I cannot put into words the the feelings of myself, the team and the coaches of that moment," he said.

He's been King for a Night in Staples, the Kings' Luc Robitaille.

Luc Robitaille of the Kings, who became the team's all-time leading scorer on a night in which he scored three goals, listed his moment as when his retired jersey was being lifted up to the Staples Center rafters. "My favorite memory is when my two boys, who had hold of my jersey. let it go and then it went out of their hands" to the top, he said.

People can vote for their favorite moment at StaplesCenter.com. In mid-February, in association with Fox Sports West, 25 finalists will be announced. Fans will then be asked to vote for the top moment. Those whose nominations make the final 25 will be entered to win a three-year lease on a Toyota Prius and prizes from other Staples sponsors.
