The Sunset Strip shines at its annual street party.

Bands, beer and big crowds.

It's the annual Sunset Strip Music Festival, an event so in character with its historic surroundings that it belongs here as much as long har and black shirt on a rock star.

LA's Sunset Strip is known for music its legendary live music venues like the Roxy, Viper Room and Whisky A Go-Go, but in one lively weekend in August it is the Strip itself that brings in the bands.The 2011 event is Aug. 18-20 and features Motley Crue as the street headliner. Other bands playing that day includes Bush and Public Enemy.

More than 10,000 people attend the event, which features not only bands on two stages on the Strip, but continuous music in the live music venues along the Strip.

It also has a beer garden flowing with Bud, Bud Light and Shock Top. True to its Hollywood surroundings, the beer garden has its plush amenities, including cushy chairs and couches. It's one of the most popular hangouts at the entire event. After all, what's rock sounds without suds?

The real attraction, of course, are the bands. The 2010 event featured The Smashing Pumpkins, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & Fergie, Common, Kid Cudi, Travie McCoy, Neon Trees, Semi Precious Weapons, Steel Panther and Big B.

Slash thrills the crowd on the West Stage, right on Sunset Blvd.

For Slash, thousands packed the street in in front of The Key Club, holding up cell phones and cameras to catch photos and video. Everyone was smiling, singing, dancing and having a great time. Perhaps they were inspired by their time in the Bud Light beer garden.

The event, is actually three days of music with the block party occurring on Saturday.

The gates for the Saturday street festival open at 1 p.m., and the event continues until the last band clears the stages at the bars.

General admission, VIP and 3-Day VIP tickets are $55 in advance ($70 day of at box office). VIP tickets, which include access to a private tented area with full no-host bar and seating area, are available for $100 in advance.

All tickets ticket include access to the live music venues along the Strip, which have bands playing all day and night. Gates open at 1 p.m. and the music continues all night long.

Sunset Boulevard is be closed to traffic between San Vicente Boulevard and Doheny Drive on the day of the block party
