Review of the funny sounds of musicial comedian Mark Eddie, from PubClub.com.

Rock 'n Roll Comedian Mark Eddie
Laugh and Sing Along at the Same Time

Combining music with comedy, Mark Eddie is making his mark.

There are comedians who thrive on situations – politics, events, relationships, their family, and so forth.

There are comedians who blend in other entertainment aspects into their acts – magic, for example.

Then there is Mark Eddie.

Mark Eddie sings "The Porn Star Song."

He's a comic who is also a musician. Or he's a musician who is also a comic.

Actually, he's both – a comedic musician, for lack of a better term. And frankly, he's quite adept at both. He makes a living – and people laugh – by combining the two in a creative comedy act of musical parodies, changing lyrics to popular songs and poking fun at rock stars. The result is predictable – he's hilarious.

"I was playing acoustic cover tunes at coffee shops around the country," said the man with two first names. "I started telling stories and people were laughing. From there, it just kind of snowballed."

He was always a bit of a clown. In high school, teachers gave him the floor for five minutes at the end of class. He always sent them out the door with a laugh. Eddie was in a cover band in those days and that's how he began his career. But he just couldn't keep from being funny.

Here's a glimpse at his comedic side:

"I used to tour college campuses as a musician. I found out what's on the minds of the kids in college.

"Not much,"

Or this gem:

"Men are like women. We like to be held. It's WHERE we want to be held that's the difference."

Eddie is an incredibly talented singer. He transitions between songs and styles with the same ease that his audience laughs. It comes across as that natural.

Few artists are safe from his antics. Bruce Springsteen. Bob Seager. John Mellencamp. Dave Matthews ("Cant understand a damned thing he says.")

Plus Pink Floyd. What starts out sounding like "The Wall" instead becomes "Another Dick in the Mall."

Even Jimmy Buffett, where "Margaritaville" becomes "Marijuanaville."

Rolling my home grown,
Smoking a big bone.

Using my tweezes,
Got pot in the freezer.

I got a real beauty,
A Colombian doobie...

And then there's his completely original "The Porn Star Song." It's not dirty, but comical, kind of a fantasy about what it might be like to be, well, a porn star from a regular guy's point of view. Behold some of the lyrics:

I want a job where it's not all wrong
To walk around naked all day long.

It's be great, it would rock.
All the girls would would want to rub my (pause) car.

I don't mind testing for STDs.
I'm easy going, I'm easy to please.

Living the dream and getting paid.
Showing up late and still getting laid.

This is one career where the boss doesn't mind
If he catches a glimpse of your behind.

Watch as well as listen – Eddie's facial expressions help tell the story.

He's an animated performer, making exaggerated facial expressions to emphasis different songs, which only adds to the Eddie entertainment experience.

Eddie, 42, who resides in Los Angeles, is no one-man band. Sometimes he travels with backup musicians and he's been nationally recognized for his talents. He has been nominated five times for the NACA Entertainer of the Year award. He has opened for national acts Jackson Brown and Melissa Etheridge and now produced three CDs.

Listening to his live CDs is almost like being in the crowd. The songs are quick, funny and the audience roars. It's so good, one is tempted to shout for an encore when it's over.

One serious note – briefly, for that is the only way Eddie would have it – he has Type 1 diabetes. He's outspoken on the subject, too. "We've got to find a cure," he says. "I don't wanna be the only guy whose VH-1 "Behind the Music' special ends in a tragic Snickers overdose."

Mark Eddie regularly performs the comedy club circuit in L.A. He also tours throughout the U.S. His complete tour schedule can be found on his website, .MarkEddie.com,. For even more, visit his MySpace page.
