PubClub.com Newsletter:
February 26, 2003

Now THAT'S a nice set of beer goggles!

Welcome to the PubClub.com newsletter.

Here's what's new on the site, what's coming up and what enhancements we've made to increase your enjoyment of PubClub.com. We can (perhaps) help you find a date, avoid a hangover and definitely tell you where to find the hot parties and events.

But first, something serious.

Nightclub Tragedies

The two recent nightclub tragedies in Chicago and Rhode Island was a wakeup call to many bar owners. It should also serve to remind bar-goers that things can happen, so double-check all available exits when at a place. PubClub.com also asks our members to be patient, as fire marshals, the media and local officials in the States are going to be really scrutinizing bars and clubs for the next few weeks. Owners will respond by being conservative on the number of people allowed in their establishments. This will lead to lines – or longer lines – so arrive a half-hour earlier than normal and be prepared to be delayed.

Where We've Been – Skiing & Shredding!

We had our share of shots in wild and crazy Mont Tremblant, Canada.

Where there's a hill and snow, there's PubClub.com!

•Mont Tremblant. We went there expecting a good time but had no idea it would be THAT wild. Mont Tremblant, in eastern Canada outside of Montreal, rocks. People dancing on the bars, everyone going hard late into the night, that kind of thing. We were there and have the report on this lovely little village with the big runs and out-of-control nightlife.

• Mammoth President's Day Trip. To find anyone in Southern California, head to Mammoth Mountain on this three-day weekend. We were there and have been featuring photos daily the past week as our Shot of the Day. Not much has changed on the nightlife scene but when the new Village gets built, we will have the updates and inside scoop. The target date for completion was February 1 of this year and it's not even close, so you might as well not count on it until next season. We've also dispatched a correspondent this weekend to Park City, Utah, with the main objective to update the town's bars:

What We've Done

We partied with other reveling runners in the beer garden.

•  Super Bowl 10K. Once again, we proved it's possible to run 6 miles with a Sharkeez bucket on our head. The Redondo Beach, CA Super Bowl 10K is the second-largest 10K on the West Coast. Many people dress up and our local cantina, Sharkeez, sponsored us to run. So we took the buckets normally reserved for 64-ounce Shark Bites, decorated them and wore them in the race. We also had grass skirts and were the big hit in the post-run beer garden. Check out the photos! Now, if you are REALLY up for something, the Los Angeles Marathon is this Sunday. (We'll miss that one, thank you.)

Where are YOU Going???

Long Beach Grand Prix Party Bus. Stay tuned for details on taking a Party Bus to the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on Saturday, April 12. The package will include drink specials at the pickup and dropoff locations at Sharkeez in Manhattan and Hermosa Beach, the bus ride and race tickets. This is Southern California¹s largest springtime outdoor party and Saturday a free rock concert will be staged. Third Eye Blind has played in the past.
• Long Beach Grand Prix

• JazzFest New Orleans and Jimmy Buffett Schedule. We're putting on the key bands for JazzFest and have Jimmy Buffett¹s 2003 Tiki Tour concert schedule. See ya in Vegas in April???

No More Hangovers???

How many times have you woke up with that throbbing head in the morning and the words, "I'll never do it again!" Only to, well, do it again the very next night. Stop the problem before it starts with Buzz Dietary Supplement. Take two pills before drinking and prevent that nasty hangover. The second-greatest think about it is that you actually retain your buzz! To learn more and to order the product (by the boatload, if you ask us), go to it's website.

New Sight Enhancements

First we brought you the Shot of the Day. Now we've added a Quote of the Day. It's different line delivered by the famous and not-to-famous on the topic of drinking, partying and going out.

• Club Addresses, Phone Numbers and Maps. We do listen to our readers! It was suggested to us that it would be helpful if we supplied addresses, phone numbers and maps – instead of just a description of the location – of the places we cover. So we are in the process of doing just that. It's a huge task but we're getting there. We started in Hollywood and have most of Los Angeles covered. We also have San Francisco completed. Now you can get all this info without ever leaving our site! We will eventually get to most of our destinations, though it's not necessary in places like the Greek Islands and the ski villages of Tremblant and Whistler.

Get a Date – In a Hurry!

Can you do it 25 times in one night? Sure you can! Check out the next HurryDate party in your city and go on 25 three-minute dates by night¹s end. Indicate on your Scorecard if you want to see each person again and they match you up! The rest is up to you! Party News and a Joke

• Gee, Ya Think!? The head of Georgetown University's Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth has charged that alcoholic beverage ads on TV primary depict people "having a good time by consuming the product." Reported in Ad Age, the article also points out that a study by the University of Michigan reveals that teenage drinking is on the decline. So take that, Georgetown, and bring on more mud wrestling!

• Just Head to Amsterdam! Here's an interesting item from The Gardian Unlimited, a London-based news source: Fed up with thrill-seeking German drug tourists, the Netherlands has decided to turn the hundreds of coffee shops which line its border into German-free zones. The plan – which would involve ordering coffee shops in areas bordering Germany to serve only Dutch residents in possession of valid "membership cards" – is causing a stir. But the justice ministry and local officials say they will press ahead. The problem, they say, is becoming unbearable. Thousands of Germans visit every day to take advantage of the Netherlands' fabled coffee shop culture. The result. say the authorities, is that dozens of towns have been transformed into open-air drug supermarkets, stalked by aggressive drug dealers and criminals.

 And Finally, A Joke!
Patient: Doctor, Doctor I feel like a pair of curtains!
Doctor: Pull yourself together.
