Concert and Parrothead Tailgate Photos

The king of somewhere
hot was REALLY hot at Margaritaville Cafe.
NEW ORLEANS Jimmy Buffett says Margaritaville is
anywhere you want it to be. That it's the ideal place for you to be
at any given point in time. And for Parrotheads, that exact spot on
Thursday, May 2, 2002 was in Buffett's own Margaritaville Cafe in New
Orleans as he took the stage with the Coral Reefer Band for an incredible
and intimate concert.
About 200 fans some of whom lined up as early as
6:30 that morning were treated to a lively and outstanding show.
Another hundred-plus watched on giant video screens out on the street.
Most arrived between 5-6 p.m. Doors opened at 8.
The
show started with the Coral Reefer Band which is currently touring
at Club Trini playing some lively Caribbean tunes. The band is
excellent and if not for Buffett, this alone would have been worth the
wait. Peter Mayer is the happiest guitar player ever to take the stage
(and even has released his own CDs). But after the Reefers played "Hot,
Hot, Hot," the "King of Somewhere Hot" came on stage
and the place erupted.
Jimmy surprisingly began the 2-hour show with "Margaritaville"
and the party was on. The set also included "Fruitcakes,"
I Love the Now," "I Will Play for Gumbo," "Son of
A Son of A Sailor" and "A Pirate Looks at 40." Among
these classic and traditional tunes sprinkled among songs from his just-released
album.
Buffett said he played here because of his rich history
and love of New Orleans (revealing it's where he lost his virginity,
which probably doesn't make him unique in that aspect in this town).
Before the band took the stage, PubClub.com's
Bartender columnist felt the need to be fully armed with
alcohol so he wouldn't be interrupted by having to make trips for cocktails.
So, he ordered a pair of margaritas.
"How strong do you want them," the bar's bartender
asked The Bartender.
"How much of a tip would you like?" he responded.
She proceeded to mix a concoction consisting mostly of tequila. It was
so strong, people nearby were nearly passing out from the fumes.
So, The Bartender tipped the young lass $5 on a $12 tab
and definitely got Wasted Away in Margaritaville.
What a warm-up to Saturday at Jazz Fest.
Phins UP!!!
Peter Mayer ROCKS!!!

Fans lined up all
day some as early as 6:30 that morning.
