Buffett was
all smiles as he put the frenzied crowd in Margaritaville.
NEW ORLEANS Jimmy Buffett should no longer allow
himself to play one of his own songs: "It's Midnight and I'm Not
Famous Yet."
Because the sun was still out and Buffett was definitely
famous at the New Orleans Jazz Fest on Saturday, May 5. A huge crowd
packed the main Acura stage and Buffett treated his fans to 90+minutes
of fun, frenzy and a feast of tunes, both old and new.
Much
as he did at his intimate performance on Thursday at his own Margaritaville
Cafe, Buffett immediately got the crowd going with his national anthem,
"Margaritaville." And he was joined on stage for a few tunes
by his ol' friend Zachery Richard. But that's about where the two shows'
similarity ended, and anyone fortunate enough to have caught both performances
got 3 1/2 hours of pure Buffett.
Jimmy has a new CD out and, unlike many other artists
who try and shove the new tunes down their audiences' throat when they
really want to hear the classics, Buffett played what the Parrotheads
wanted to hear.

He did a few of the new ones, too, but mainly it was a
tribute to Buffett's New Orleans roots. He loves this place and he obviously
still loves his job, too, because he smiled the entire time and skipped
around the stage, often jamming with the Coral Reefer Band.

The set included "Stars on the Water," "The
Weather is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful" ("but you ARE beautiful,"
he said), "Everybody's Got a Cousin at Jazz Fest, er, Miami,"
"Come Monday," I Will Play for Gumbo" (with Richard on
harmonica), "Volcano," "Fins," Southern Cross,"
"Tiki Bar," "Last Man Standing" and "A Pirate
Looks at 40." His first encore included "Brown Eyed Girl."
He wrapped up the show very emotionally for true Parrotheads
by taking the stage by himself and playing "Lovely Cruise."
It was enough to send the already-charged (and highly
alcohol-motivate) crowd into a frenzy. And, this being New Orleans,
the party had just begun.

The Bartender and
friends were definitely in Margaritaville.
