Ski apres and nightlife in the village of Saas-Fee, a ski resort in the Swiss Alps.

Swiss Alps Saas-Fee Bars
Ski Apres and Nightlife in the Village

The beautiful Estelle greets Ski Apres partiers at Zur Muhle.

Altitude without attitude.

That's ski apres and nightlife in the village of Saas-Fee, a ski resort in the Swiss Alps. The village may be small but the nightlife scene is not; a number of young snowboarders and young-minded skiers make this a rockin' resort that's as much fun off the slopes as on them.

Ski Apres

Shots are a great wa to warm up after a day on the slopes.

The party starts early in Saas-Fee. Because the mountains are so high, the sun starts to disappear by about 3. And that means ski apres in Saas-Fee!

The #1 spot for ski apres is called, appropriately enough the No. 1 Bar. Right off the mid-town gondola, its patio rocks with bands on weekends. And the people who gather here rock right along with th music, making it a Saas-Fee' post-slopes partys.

But, like any good ski village, this is hardly the only show in town. At the bridge over the creek are two lively spots. They are small but the patios are packed and ideal for recalling those great runs of the day with co-skiers or boarders. These spots go strong from 3 until 6-ish.

The patio of Zur Muhle almost spills out onto the small street.

Zur Muhle is a traditional small Swiss restaurant that is full of thirsty skiers and boarders. It has cold beer, of course, and also warm, schnapps-filled shots mixed up in coolers for quick and easy service. Look for the lovely Estelle behind the bar. She's not difficult to spot.

No bull – the Black Bull is a fun apres bar.

Next door is the Black Bull Snowbar. This small bar, mostly consiting of a patio, plays fun party music and while there's little room to dance, people don't let that stop them from singing and shouting to the tunes. The place rocks.

For Apres or any other time, locals like the Happy Bar. It has a Happy Hour (figures) when drinks are cheaper. This bar is a causal hangout.

Another apres bar is Nestie’s Skibar. But it is pretty much happening all the time, so keep reading for more on this party place.

Saas-Fee by Dark – Bars, Clubs & Nightlife

Popping at the famous Popcorn.

The most famous bar in Saas-Fee – and it's known throughout the snowboard world – is Popcorn. It's even got a snowboard shop in the front. Part dance club and part live music venue it's always popping, like popcorn kernels in the microwave. The crowd is young – late teens to mid-20s – and the place is absolutely radical during the resort's snowboard events, the biggest of which is the Popcorn Wallride of the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour, won in 2008 by Shawn White. The 2009 event is April 16-19.

Shots (below) are more common than beers at Nesti's.

For some, the prime party place is Nestie’s Skibar, a fun ski haus where the shot is the king of this mountain. Don't be surprised to be greeted by stumbling patrons upon entrance.

This can easily be explained by the fact that Nesle's niche is selling shots – Long Island Teas, Kamikazes – in shakers for groups to share. And share they do, shaker after shaker. Pretty soon they are singing and dancing as the place takes on a raucous party atmosphere. Nesti's is not a particuarly large place and it's decor is old-syle ski haus pub, just perfect for the setting and the scene. It's located right on the village's main street.

The decor at Nesti's make it like an old ski haus bar.

The Crazy Night in the Metropol hotel is the largest bar in town, a nice place with pool tables. Poison is another nightclub.

Those who want a real challenge of going straight from a bar to the lift can stay all night at Poison. This dark downstairs bar t's open until 6 a.m.!

Some locals prefer to spend their nights getting happy at the previously mentioned Happy Bar or the Living Room in the Dom Hotel. The Living Room is very comfortable with good music (not too hard and too loud) and has a minimum age of 21. But if you want really party, this not the right place.

A good place for a fun pint or two is down the steps across from the busy Popcorn. The Alpen Pub is just that – a pub in the alps. Nothing fancy, nothing high-tech, just a comfortable little bar that's great for conversation. It's a good place to end a great day on the slopes and wrap up a night in the village of Saas-Fee.
