Golf In Switzerland? Yes, And A Beautiful Blonde Golfer

It’s Not Par For The Course In Zurich

There are gorgeous golf courses in Switzerland, like here in the Lake Geneva Region.

Golf in Switzerland had never occurred to me until one late afternoon in Zurich.

Like most people, I has long associated Switzerland activities with skiing, biking, hiking and the occasional semi-daredevil act such as paragliding. But golf? Not a thought.

Trying To Take A Swing

That, however, changed when I walked up to a tram stop in Zurich and saw a girl fully outfitted in golf attire –  visor, sweater vest, white golf glove, spiked golf shoes and a full set of clubs.

This caught me completely off guard; imagine seeing this in, say, New York City.

She looked like she just stepped off a golf course, but we were in the middle of Old Town.

Actually, she looked like she just stepped off a runway or out of a photo studio for a magazine shoot, for she was stunning. I mean drop-dead gorgeous stunning. And immaculate in her appearance, not a wrinkle on her clothing, not a bead of sweat on her brow.

My brain was trying to process her beauty, the fact she was in golf attire (with brand new clubs in a big bag, mind you) and standing at a small tram spot on a street, all at once. In Switzerland! It was as out of place as seeing a snow skier at the beach.

I anxiously wanted to talk with her to ask if she had just played golf somewhere in Zurich and possibly if she would join me for a glass of great Swiss wine at a dimly-lit restaurant before getting down to serious things and proposing marriage. As I mentioned, she was stunning.

But just as I got to her, the tram arrived and poof! She was gone in a second. I didn’t even have time to pull my phone out of my pocket and snap a picture.

Dang, why are the Swiss always so prompt with their trams!? Had this been in Los Angeles, we would have been on the platform long enough to start talking about having kids and then calling divorce attorneys.

At any rate, this did get me to thinking and I did discover that yes, there is golf in Switzerland. There’s quite a few courses, including some around Zurich. It even occurred to me that Switzerland would be a great place to play golf; imagine it in a village in the Alps.

Because of the small size of the country and the efficiency of the trains, one could even play two courses in two different areas the same day.

So while I’m still bummed that tram whisked away my possible future bride, I did gain appreciation for something Switzerland offers that I never knew about until I visited the place.

The same thing happened when I found out Switzerland has wine and wine growing regions, by the way.

I  wonder what other secrets Switzerland is hiding around those Alps!?

Cheers!
