Cubs Fans Partying In Wrigleyville For World Series Games

Murphy’s Bleachers Has 4-Hour Wait As Tens Of Thousands Descend On Wrigley Field & The Bars

 

They have waited lifetimes – yes, lifetimes, as it’s been generations since this has happened – and now that it’s here they don’t want to waste a moment of it.

Chicagoans began descending upon Wrigleyville, the community that sits around Wrigley Field, as early as noon on Friday. The Chicago Cubs are hosting their first World Series since 1945 in a three-night series that has overtaken the city and its citizens.

Tens of thousands of people are partying in Wrigleyville and its bars. And some people did not arrive early enough to get into the bars. There is, for example, a four-hour wait to get into Murphy’s Bleachers, the traditional pre-game bar for all Cubs games.

And the Cubby Bear, where fans like to go after games (you see, there’s usually a routine for these things) is using this as a profit center by charging $100 to go inside and watch the games.

So people are adjusting and just partying around the stadium (they brought their own beverages to consume) and PubClub.com has boots on the ground with Luau Larry, a live-long Cubbies fan who has waited since he was a child barely old enough to hold a baseball to see the Cubs in the World Series.

He found tickets – he won’t say for how much – along the third-base line. And while it’s impossible to get into the bars, he’s having a blast. The entire scene has been, well, almost worth the wait.

“It reminds me of Mardi Gras but with Cubs fans,” he reported. “Or a Jimmy Buffett concert. It’s all good vibrations.”

Cubs fans are, of course, hoping to sweep the three weekend games so they can really celebrate come Sunday. And into Monday.

It has been so long since the Cubs won a World Series, the Titanic wasn’t even built at the time. Chicagoans are more than ready to raise not a ship, but a team, a trophy and, of course, quite a few beers.
