Product Associated With Simpsons Sitcom Flows Freely in Latin America
Homer Simpson is onto something here. Perhaps that rot-gut Duff beer he loves on the Simpsons Fox TV sitcom isn’t all that bad after, all.
Because, according to a report in the Miami Herald, it’s selling like electricity from the Springfield nuclear power plant in Latin America.
Yes, THAT Duff beer.
Well, it’s called Duff anyway, and the label is the same as Homer’s favorite beverage. And, according to the article, it’s available in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and even some parts of Mexico.
It fetches a premium price –$5.50 a bottle in Bogota – even though it apparently has a taste that only Homer can embrace.
“I’m not going to tell you this is the best beer in the world,” said Reynaldo Roman, general manager of a bar in Bogota.
That pretty much goes without saying, for Homer is hardly a beer connoisseur with refined tastes. He’s more PBR than Beck’s. But Duff’s is selling briskly, if not for the taste than for the novelty of it.
It’s unlikely that any Duff’s will make its way to the USA, except in the suitcase of a traveler coming back from Latin America. It’s not licensed in the United States. But, apparently, 20th Century Fox allows it south of the border.
If PubClub.com ever makes it down there – and Bogota is definitely high on the radar – then this blogger will let you know what it’s like, and whether it takes more than Homer to like Duff beer. Regardless, we all know that, has Homer says, “beer, the cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.”
