People enjoy wine tasting on a boat, a unique place to experience a wine festival.

In what is Europe’s most creative wine festival, the city of Zurich, Switzerland hosts an event called Zürich Expovina.

It’s a wine tasting event and exhibition that takes place on boats docked in town. Yes, a wine festival on the water, where you go from boat to boat to boat tasting wines and having a grand time.

The 2017 event is Nov. 2-16. This is the 64th festival.

A total of 12 boats tied up at Bürkliplatz (near the Zurich Opera House) and are loaded with more than 160 stands for tasting and samples more than 4,000 wines from 24 countries.

Some of those include the great Swiss wines, which are produced in such limited quantity they are next to impossible to get outside of Switzerland.

The Zürich wine exhibition is the world’s largest wine-tasting fair for “amateurs,” meaning it’s open to the public and is not just those in the industry.

Tickets cost CHF 25, and the event is open to anyone 16-and-over. The boats are open and pouring Monday – Saturday from 1-11 p.m., and on Sunday from 11 a.m.- 7 p.m.

There are also restaurants, and they are open from 11.30 – midnight and on Sundays from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Entrance is free from 11.30 am – 12.30 p.m., to go to the restaurants.

It’s recommended you dress for cool or even cold weather. Being on the water is even colder than being on land, and it’s important to keep that in mind. Although after several wines, you’ll probably be feeling pretty warm.

After the festival, be sure and go out to some of Zurich’s best bars, including the city’s famous piano bar and even an Oktoberfest-like bierhall, both in Old Town.

This is event’s official website; note it’s in German but can be translated to other languages.
