Los Angeles has been chosen as the host city for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games.

The city originally was competing with Paris for the 2024 Games, but the Olympic Committee made the unprecedented move of awarding the Games to both cities, tho in different years. Paris was unwilling to budge on the 2024 date, but Los Angeles was willing to be flexible, and it paid off for the city.

This will be the third Olympic Games Los Angeles has hosted, the other two being in 1932 and 1984.

Details on the Los Angeles Games – such as venues, the Olympic Village and everything else associated with the Olympics – will be released later. A centerpiece of the Games in the past has been the Los Angeles Coliseum, but it is an aging facility in bad need of a major repair. The Rose Bowl recently underwent a renovation and is likely to need another one by the time the Games get to Los Angeles.

The Staples Center will no doubt be utilized unless it is replaced by the time of the Games.

A good guess to hold beach volleyball will be in the beach volleyball mecca of the world, Hermosa Beach or Manhattan Beach.

Long Beach may make a push to hold swimming, as it hosted those events in 1932 and built a temporary pool in a parking lot to host the USA swim trails prior to the Athens Games in 2004.

Of course, Los Angeles has a diversity of landscape, offering mountains (for mountain biking), an ocean, the beaches, and has two major colleges with facilities to hold events such as track & field.

Los Angeles ushered in the modern area of hosting Olympic Games in 1984 when it brought in heavy corporate sponsorship to turn a profit and even managed to keep LA’s notorious traffic down to a minimum.
