Bama Still Has Shot At College Football Playoffs; If Not This Year Then Next, Too
What a relief!
Sure, Alabama lost to Auburn in the Iron Bowl – the biggest punch in the gut a diehard Crimson Tide fan like me can receive in the regular season – but in a way I’m kind of glad.
After all, I can have my life back on Saturdays.
No more spending a gorgeous morning at the beach like I did today glued to the television hoping somehow Michigan would find some offense and knock Ohio State out of the College Football Playoffs for good. I could have been – should have been – running on the beach then going for a bike ride down The Strand in Hermosa Beach.
No more not meeting out friends because I’m too involved and nervous to leave the house. No more passing up fun things happening around me because a game is on, no more having heart attacks every week as teams ranked close to Bama pull out close wins and schools like LSU and Mississippi State put up gallant fights against the Tide that threaten to pretty much spoil the season before December.
You don’t know what a relief it is to have “off” the following Saturday. I don’t have to be sucked into watching the SEC Championship, tapping my foot, pacing back and forth and changing viewing locations in the room and otherwise ruining my Saturday afternoon.
I have a potential press trip to Cayucos, CA for the PubClub.com Travel section, one of the many neat beach towns along the Central California coast. It would involve kayaking, biking along the scenic shoreline, going to Hearst Castle and eating and drinking in its restaurants and bars.
Were Bama playing for the SEC title, I would constantly be checking my phone for the score and not fully enjoying these great experiences. Now, I can do it without a worry.
If that doesn’t work out, I can go to the Big 10 Pub Crawl right here in Hermosa Beach.
Plus, Bama can still make the College Football Playoffs. I would be BUMMED if the Tide were left out, of course, and what interest would the games and the championship game have without Alabama for me?
None, of course.
Even if that does not happen, I know that Alabama will be back in the thick of things next year. Unlike like so many other schools (like Auburn) which only occasionally gets to dip a toe into the post-season party, Bama is in the chase every season.
And that makes me even more relaxed.
