My Boyfriend Says He Doesn’t Want A Long-Term Relationship; What Now? – Ask The Man

Girlfriend Needs Help Pondering Future With BF

By Ask The Man, PubClub.com’s Life Coach Blogger For Women

In this post, a girl is wonders what to do next after her boyfriend says “no” when she asks if they can have a long-term relationship.

Dear Ask The Man: My boyfriend, who often keeps to himself (he’s an artist) told me something the other day that really confused me. I asked him if I was the right person for him to have a long-term relationship. He gave me a one-word answer: “no.” Now what do I do, keep seeing him knowing it won’t ever develop into anything, break up with him, see him only occasionally? We’re both in our early 20s.

Ask The Man: You have two choices, and the answer depends on what you want.

You can:

1.) Continue to see him and keep things as they are now.

2.) Break up with him and move on to find someone else.

2a.) The worst thing you can do is only see him occasionally. I assume this means to hook up on a regular basis. Give that to a guy on a regular basis and he’ll never change (from a guy’s perspective, this is the perfect scenario, so why change things?).

What you choose depends on what you want. Are you happy in the current situation? Do you have fun with him? Is he good in bed? (Since in your 20s, you may only know of him so it may be hard to judge.) Is he engaging and does he like to go out with your friends? (Probably not, I’m guessing.)

In other words, are you getting what you want out of him and the relationship?

If you are, then stick with him. If you’re not, if you want more and desire to be with someone that you think can turn into a long-term relationship, then break up with your boyfriend. Don’t just stick with him because it’s comfortable, and by that I mean the fact he’s there and you don’t have to worry about going “out there” trying to meet someone.

The fact you’re asking this question in the first place tells me it’s time to move on; heck you’re in your early 20s so get out there girl!
