PyeongChang 2018 The Stage For Two Weeks Of International Partying
You may not have South Korea on your top places to party in the world, but for two weeks in February, PyeongChang is the best place to be for a fun time.
Even with Mardi Gras happening the first weekend.
PyeongChang is hosting the XXIII Olympic Winter Games, Feb. 9-25, and the Games are an event on a worldwide scale that everyone should experience at least once in their lives.
It’s not like there are floats passing out beads to hundreds of thousands of people lined along streets for miles, as there is for Carnival, or people holding up liters of beer singing songs in huge bierhalls like you find at Oktoberfest, but rather a collection of the friendliest, happiest and most feel-good people you’ll ever encounter in your travels.
The Olympics bring in people from all over the planet and they have one objective: to enjoy the atmosphere and to bring with them, and to soak in, the Olympic spirit.
When you’re at the Olympics, it matters not what country you’re from or whom you’re rooting for because at the Olympics, it’s all about being there rather than medal counts. Winning is a bonus.
And that this is coming from American, where even finishing second is treated as hang-your-head embarrassing.
At the Games, you’re meeting – and liking – people from everywhere. I’ve been to the Winter Olympics and I’ve never smiled as much, never got chills so many times from the comradery and sportsmanship I’ve experienced from people all over the world
And when that “us against them” mentally is wiped away well, you just throw down the gloves and party. You high-five people at the events regardless of the outcome, go up to strangers in the street and have drinks – shots! – with them in the bars.
Sure, you can find wilder and bigger parties elsewhere, but for the best, head to the Olympics at some point in your life.
It’s an experience you will forever remember and appreciate.
