Los Angeles South Bay City Is Often Like Being On Vacation

It’s always kind of sad when you leave a good travel destination and start to pack those bags for the trip back home.
I don’t know what you do, but I when start putting clothes and toiletries in the suitcase and unplug the computer, I think about all the things I did, all the things I intended to do but didn’t get around to, and about anything that I might have done differently had if I had the chance to repeat them.
Then I chuckle. Or even break out in a loud laugh. That’s when I start to remember the really fun times of the trip.
But regardless of how much I’ll miss a place and wish I were staying longer or say “I can’t wait to get back,” I do have one thing to look forward to, and that’s the fact I get to return to pretty good place.
That’s Hermosa Beach on the Southern California coast and it’s so good it’s often hard to leave in the first place. There’s riding my bike and running along the beachfront path called The Strand, there’s seemingly endless events involving socializing with friends and locals and there’s that great Southern California weather.
I know when I get back it’s likely to be 75 and sunny.
I’ve always felt sorry for people who have to return to places like Peoria, Pleasanton, Davenport or Detroit. Uggg, Detroit.
They slip back into their normal routine and have days and weeks of miserable weather. Here, in what is called the Los Angeles South Bay consisting of two other beach cities (among them the very nice Manhattan Beach) the “normal routine” is abnormal to pretty much anyone else’s standards. The weather is so good and the people so lively and active, you really don’t know what to expect at any given moment, which is kind of like being on vacation.
Plus, I’m in a vacation destination to begin with – Los Angeles had a record 48.3 million visitors in 2017.
So yes, it’s sad when I start to pack that suitcase, or enjoy a drink on a balcony overlooking a beautiful scene for the last time on a trip. But I know more fun awaits me when I return to Hermosa Beach.
Cheers!
