The Best Day For Singles At The World’s Fastest Beach Party
As a multi-year veteran of the Long Beach Grand Prix from both a fans and insider standpoint, I am often asked “what’s the more fun day to go to it, Saturday or Sunday?”
Sunday would seem to make the most sense, since that’s the day of the event’s highlight, the IndyCar race. If you want to see this, which is the premier race on a busy three-day weekend, then Sunday is a no-brainer.
But from a social (and party) standpoint, Saturday is the better day, and he’s why.
First of all, the day is longer. Races go from 8 in the morning to nearly 7 at night. And then there’s a concert. Plus, Sunday has the more serious race car fans. And during the race, most people are in their seats and the actual grounds – jumping all day Saturday – are pretty much deserted.
Saturday is also the big party day. After all, few people have to wake up (sober) and go to work the next day. So people start early and they go until, well, they’ve gone too long.
There are bars around the track and bars in the track, and on Saturday the three main GA areas – by the Long Beach Convention Center (the Wyland-painted whales building), the Promenade that runs along lower Pine Ave., and the grassy area behind Shoreline Drive known as Marina Green – and it is in these areas that you will find more people and a way better party than on Sunday.
And finally, it’s cheaper to go on Saturday than on Sunday – $65 vs. $70 for a GA and $70 vs. $90 for a reserved seat.
The 2019 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach is April 12-14 and it involves a full weekend of all kinds of races and activities. Held on a temporary race course on the city streets of Long Beach, CA – including the scenic palm tree-lined Shoreline Drive – it was once hailed as “the Monaco Grand Prix Of The USA.”
It has a rich history and since its inception, it has been more about the overall event rather than just the racing. It is jam-packed with sideshows, such as an Expo, vendor booths everywhere and concerts on Friday and Saturday evenings, free with your ticket.
You can select and pay for their Grand Prix tickets, parking and paddock passes online at gplb.com. Ticket orders can also be placed by calling the toll-free ticket hotline, (888) 827-7333.
