Few cities have as many landmarks – and thus, Instagrammable locations – as does San Francisco.

These are the 10 most popular Instagrammable places In San Francisco. Descriptions of each are included here. There are certainly several more scenic locations – such as Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, the neighborhood restaurants, the Grateful Dead house in Haight/Ashbury  just to name a few – but the ones featured here are locations you can get to in a weekend or even in a day.

1.) The Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge From Marin
The Golden Gate bridge is a top landmark to visit in the Golden State.

In a city full of landmarks, this is the most famous one and the bridge delivers by offering great views on either side of it. The Presidio has the fewest people; from here it’s almost as if you are sneaking up to it. There’s also a viewing point just before you cross it and on the right after you cross it. Go a little further under the tunnel and get spectacular shots of it, with the skyline in the background, from the Marin Headlands. I also like to go for runs when traveling and I found a path past Crissy Field that goes directly under the famous structure. Next time I’ll have to take my camera to get photos from this vantage point!

2.) Alcatraz Island

This is the most popular tour in San Francisco and in order to get your photos here, you had better get your tickets for it the same time you get your plane tickets. Top Instagrammable photo places on Alcatraz are behind the prison bars, inside the cells and on the outdoor deck overlooking San Francisco Bay, the city’s skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge

3.) The Cable Cars

The Cable Cars run along Powell and California streets downtown and up and down Hyde Street near Fisherman’s Wharf. Get shots of people leaning over the side and then of yourself on this unique form of transportation.

4.) Lombard Street

Here, you’ll have to compete with a lot of tourists who are also getting their Instagram photos. So be patient and be prepared to do “the Instagram trade-out” where fellow tourists ask you to take their photo, and then they will take yours. There are photo opportunities all up and down this short, curvy street; I like one at the top the most because when taken correctly, you can see all the way down the hill to the bay.

5.) The Fisherman’s Wharf Ship’s Wheel Sign

This sign, which has been featured in nearly every TV show and movie ever shot in San Francisco, is located at the end of the parking lot by the imposing Boudin Sourdough bread building. It is also across from many stands selling seafood and the famous chowder-in-a-bread-bowl, which is itself is a good place for Instagrammable photos.

6.) The Irish Coffee Bar (The Buena Vista)

Just past Fisherman’s Wharf, across from the Hyde Street Cable Car turnaround, is one of San Fransisco’s most famous landmarks. It’s also the only one you can drink. This would be the Buena Vista bar and restaurant, which is credited with bringing the Irish Coffee to America. This is a very busy place and finding a seat is tough, but try and get one at the bar where you will get lots of photos.

7.) The “Direction” Sign On Market Street

San Francisco has one of those “direction” signs that are common in the Caribbean and these always make for cool and silly selfies. This one is at Powell and Market. If you’re getting off BART, once you climb the steps to street level, look to your right.

8.) The Famous Hills

San Francisco is as famous for its hills as it is the Golden Gate Bridge. One of the best places to take photos of them is at the top of Hyde Street (at Lombard) looking down to the bay. Try and get a cable car in the frame for the ultimate picture.

9.) The Skyline From Across The Golden Gate Bridge And/Or Alcatraz Island

Just across the bay are great views of the San Francisco skyline and here’s three areas to get good photos: Alcatraz Island, the lookout across the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands, accessed through a tunnel just past the Golden Gate.

10.) The Bars!

Okay, maybe this is not on everyone’s list but you’re reading PubClub.com and we have to include the bars! For a great view of the city with a cocktail in your hand, head to the 46th floor of the Hilton Union Square to Citiscape lounge.
