Georgia-Florida About The Only Big Game In College Football’s Week 10

The red solo cups are largely empty as the high fives of college football won’t be playing this weekend, but the drinks will certainly be flowing at the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

There’s more than a football game happening in the Georgia-Florida border town of Jacksonville on Saturday. It’s a showcase of the true spirit – and spirits – of the sport.  This is a rivalry before Rivalry Week where Dawg fans can still hear the late homer radio announcer Larry Munson yelling “Lindsay Scott, Lindsay Scott, LINDSAY SCOTT – I broke my chair!,” from the 1980 game.

And Florida fans cringe but counter with Bell To Nattiel and the “timeout.”

There is more action elsewhere, tho, and you don’t have to wear out your remote to see all of it.

Now onto this week’s games. All times Pacific because The Pigskin Prognosticator lives on the West Coast.

UTSA at Texas A&M (9 a.m., SEC Network)

The Cadets look to hold serve against the United States Tennis Association (well close enough!) while still making enough racket to energize the fan base against this overmatched opponent. They won’t need their full arsenal of weapons to smash the Roadrunners but they need to make this a straight-set victory because they need to improve heading into the closing stretch of the season. The ball’s in their court. Winner: Texas A&M

Virginia Tech at Notre Dame (11:30 a.m., NBC)

The Domers’ season is now a wash after last week’s wipeout in Ann Arbor and they now head home to take on the Lunch Pails, who are fresh from a recovery week. The boys from Blackburg have not exactly brought back the glory days of Beamer, but they have shown some working-man’s resilience in recent weeks. However, unless the Irishmen completely collapse, they don’t have enough in the hardware store to build a victory. Winner: Notre Dame

Florida vs. Georgia (Jacksonville, FL, 12:30 p.m., CBS)

The drinks will be flowing well before kickoff in this annual meeting in the city where the river flows backward. The Dawgs are feeling disrespect from their drop in the polls while the Swamp Creatures are chomping at the bit to take a big bite out of their rivals from the north. There’s going to be some mud slinging going on by the banks of the St. Johns and over at the Jacksonville Landing. In the end, it’s going to be a Hairy situation for the spiny Reptiles, who just don’t have enough offense to keep up with the Canines, and that will set off a party in the Peach State that will be felt all the way up the coast from St. Simons to Savannah. Winner: Georgia.

Ole Miss at Auburn (4 p.m., ESPN)

It’s November and down on the Plains that means it’s time for talk about putting the Gus Bus out in the pasture and sending the school administration to watch the grass grow around it. This has become as much of an Auburn tradition as unleashing the eagle. Colonel Rebel would be happy to provide the tow truck but the thing runs on Hottie Toddies and is much more suited to suit up for a tailgate party than for heavy-duty work. So the Gus Bus will remain in place for now but some people are clearing a patch for it out by the barn. Winner: Auburn

SMU at Memphis (4:30 p.m., ABC)

With College Game Day in Memphis and the Pigskin Prognosticator including this game in this week’s picks, they aren’t singing the blues at all in Memphis this weekend. Instead, it’s it’s one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, now go cat go as the city is putting on its blue suede shoes to try and slow down the undefeated stampede from the Big D. The blue-striped Felines have drawn a line in the Mississippi to keep the Ponys from crossing the river and and have just enough horses themselves to hold that line. Winner: Memphis

Oregon at USC (5 p.m., FOX)

Hot Seat Helton seems to have gained a brief cooling off period with two straight wins, but the hot Santa Ana winds are blowing back up his trousers with the Pac-12 playoff hopefuls coming into the Coliseum. The Webfoots have not exactly been on fire but they have been able to wing it enough to win every game since blowing the season-opener to Auburn. Troy is too inconsistent to trust and while this won’t be exactly a breeze, the Ducks will fly out of town with the W.  Winner: Oregon

Colorado at UCLA (6 p.m., FOX)

With two wins in a row, the Trampolines seem to be primed for a faceplant, but fortunately for the surfer boys, they have caught the momentum wave while their opponent is coming off a big-time wipeout. The Ralphies had USC trampled last week until their coach decided to tip-toe instead of stampede. That kind of philosophy can kill the confidence of a team and the Baby Bears will ride that wave like the long left break at the Malibu Pier. Winner: UCLA
