Ireland’s Nightlife Safety Tips: Top 10 Pubs in Dublin

March 23, 2020 by kevinwilkerson 2 Comments

It is no news that Ireland is a land of adventure. With more than enough activities to make any visit the most fun moment of anyone, it also represents one of the best locations for indulging in some alcohol and great music and socialization.

A visit to Ireland without experiencing the nightlife is far from complete. The nightlife of Ireland is a whole culture on its own and promises to provide every visitor some of the best experiences of their lives. However, as fun as it is, it is quite important to preach caution as the dangers that the night holds cannot be overemphasized.

Ireland is a relatively crime-free country and the locals are very friendly. But being strangers, mistakes can happen and night driving can be quite dangerous. Hence, one can quickly get into a tight corner.

To avoid ending up with huge debts/bills that were in no way expected, I will advise getting a travel Insurance before being on your way for a visit. Some of the advantages of getting one include support in the event of a medical emergency, replacement of stolen or lost properties, stress-free car hire, coverage in remote areas, legal advice, and so on. To know more about the different types of holiday insurance covers available, visit the AA Insurance and find the best insurance quote as per your travel need.

Tips on Safety

That being said, you have to make sure that when going for a night out in Dublin you take measures to always be safe. Yes, Dublin is a safe place. However, like most cities all over the world, it has its fair share of unscrupulous people. To help keep you safe, here are some tips you can make use of in Dublin or any city.

  • If approached on the street by someone who seems to want to beg for money, it is safer to reply with a firm ‘No, thank you’. Make sure you do not stop nor engage them for any reason.
  • To avoid pickpockets who have been known to often work in groups (one engaging you while the other helps himself to your properties), it is advised to keep your valuables in your front pocket(s). If possible, zip or button them properly.
  • Never for no reason put valuables in a backpack.
  • It is better to move in pairs or groups than alone.
  • Do not put your phone in your back pocket
  • Always have a designated driver in case the rest of your end up drunk
  • When using the ATMs, make sure your PIN isn’t exposed.
  • When moving with the group at night, always watch out for others to make sure they are safe.
  • Do not wander off with strangers regardless of whether it is night or day
  • Avoid deserted side streets
  • If you find yourself in need of help, then ask a Garda or just walk into a shop
  • In the event of an emergency, you can either dial 999 or 122. Both are toll-free.

Top 10 Pubs in Dublin

All these being said about caution and security, it is time to acquaint you with some of the best pubs/bars you can go to for the best nightlife.

  1. The Long Hall – If you are the type that enjoys a classic, then this is a superb option for you. With an interior that dates back to the 1800s, it is truly a classic. You can always count on them for that excellent pint of Guinness, socialization, and a hefty dose of eavesdropping. Get in there and find yourself a superb seat in the corner if you want some privacy or just prop yourself on one of the carved stools at the bar.
  1. The Lucky Duck – A more recent bar. It is a storey spot in a beautiful Victorian building. You will be hard-pressed to miss the neighbourhood pub feel at the ground level of the pub while the other three upper levels have a more decadent feel and provide some of the best shaken-up cocktails.
  1. Grogan’s – If you are looking to blend in and take a glimpse into the nightlife of the average local, then this is your spot. It is one of the more beloved pubs for the locals and a place where friends meet to grab a couple of pints before retiring for the day. It also has a little history of being the place where Amy Schumer, Glen Hansard, and Judd Apatow led a sing-song sometimes back.

If you feel a bit hungry then you can order the incredible ham and cheese toasty.

  1. Panti Bar – With her proclaiming herself as the Queen of Ireland, it is of no wonder that this bar is a favourite among both gay and straight people. With numerous events like drag nights, bingo, and being a regular pub during the day, this bar is a must to visit.
  1. The Cobblestone – For fans of old fashioned bars or if you just would love to have a taste of the oldies, then do not hesitate to add this to your itinerary. While others have been rushing to modernize, this beautiful haven has defiantly remained old-fashioned against all odds. Along with being the best spot for traditional live music, it is often the liveliest place in Ireland.
  1. Drop Dead Twice – Located on a street known for its antique shops and music school, this bar stands out. It promises two major experiences; the Tap Room, an unpretentious Dublin boozer, and a BYO Cocktail Bar. Regardless of which one you choose, you will enjoy the company of not just the bartenders but also the in-house dog.
  1. 9 Below – If you want luxury, things do not get more luxurious than this. With the vaulted ceilings, art deco seating, and brass fixtures, the opulence here can’t be overemphasized. However, this does nothing to overshadow the great staff and awesome atmosphere.
  1. The Bar With No Name – Yes, it doesn’t have a name. However, this bar is no secret if you know to look for the wooden snail at the door. It promises a great selection of beers, but the cocktails are really what is out of this world.
  1. The Headline – This place is so cosy that you might feel like you are still in your living room. With a huge range of craft beers, superb wine list, and homemade gin, you might not want to leave anytime soon.
  1. Peruke and Periwig – This small but lavish bar provides an incredible cocktail menu. If all you are in the mood for is to grab a seat by the bar and get pampered by the bartenders’ expertise, then you should head there right now.

The Irish people like to drink. The nightlife across the country varies but one common denominator across the board is that culturally, the Irish people enjoy a drink. A word to the wise: don’t try to keep up. Drinking alcohol will dull your senses and slow your reaction time, which in turn makes you vulnerable to others. If you are under the influence and are not in control of the situation, it can be dangerous for a woman who is out and about. By all means enjoy yourself, but go at your own pace. Have a drink, have a laugh but be safe about how you do it.
