Guide To Setting Up The Perfect Bar In Your Backyard

June 11, 2020 by kevinwilkerson Leave a Comment

We have all been dying to go to the pub in recent times. Unfortunately, this has been impossible for many of us. So, what is the solution? One increasingly popular option is to build your own bar in the back yard, it’s definitely the shortest stumble home you will find. Here is our guide on seting up the perfect bar in your backyard.

Choose the Area

The first decision you will need to make when building your bar is what area of the yard you are looking to build on? You may want to be near the house for convenience for bringing supplies in and out. Or maybe it should be a little hideaway at the bottom of the garden? Also, in need of consideration is what the state of the area currently is? If it needs to be cleared, you should plan to do so; if you need to fell trees or remove bushes, consider the time and effort required. Other issues could be if the area is not level, you might have to raise up the low side with hardcore aggregates or dig out the high side to lower it; either way, this will require effort and expense.

Shelter or Outhouse

The next decision is probably the biggest one, do you want an outdoor garden shelter for this bar, or are you looking to build an outhouse style, often referred to as a ‘Man Cave.’ Shelters can be as easy as a canvas sheet that you can create a small bar area under, or alternatively, you can build a more involved timber shelter, albeit not fully enclosed. If you want to, ‘build your cave’ there are a few options to achieve this; firstly you can buy a kit to build a garden building; you could also get a carpenter to design and build one for you or, if you are particularly adventurous you could attempt this yourself.

Entertainment

What’s a bar without entertainment? It would be best if you had something, and thankfully there are plenty of options. Traditional bar games such as darts or pool are easy to get going and are not difficult at all, so even after a few brews, no-one is going to get hurt. Or, if you like the live music vibe, how about a karaoke machine? There are even outdoor TVs that you can enjoy with your family and your friends. No matter what you have, it is just enjoyable to be doing it with the people that you love.

Decorating

What sort of vibe are you looking to create? We have seen back yard bars in all manner of styles. Your favorite football team is one popular choice. A theme of a retro bar, going back to traditional bars of the past, can be really cool, with vintage beer pumps and old-style stools, which can be striking. Poolhall décor is really cool as well, especially with neon bar signs. If you want any illuminated signs or just lighting in general, then it’ll be essential to get an electricity hook-up. You will need a qualified electrician to connect a power outlet to the garden areas. Be sure to get a few competing quotes to ensure you are getting the best deal.

Food & Drink

Another use for the power you might have just had installed is to make sure that you can have a top-class selection of food and drink out there. What kind of bar doesn’t have chilled drinks for a start? You can also have a powered cooking area at the back of the area, so that tasty bar snacks are only an arms-length away. You could always recreate your favorite bar’s BBQ menu, and this is something that I’ve been trying to do for years with varying degrees of success. You can always opt for the traditional BBQ pit as another option that never disappoints.

Have a Grand Opening

Once everything is in place, and you are past all of the hard work that has no doubt taken a great deal of your time and effort, you are finally able to unveil the masterpiece. This definitely merits a grand opening, why not show off your new pride and joy to all of your friends and family with a grand opening party. You should give the bar a working trial beforehand, just to make sure the food and drink are tasting just the way you want them to taste.
