America’s Oldest City is celebrating its 455th birthday on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, and it’s an outdoor event with the public invited that kicks off a month of outdoor events, including a music festival.

Beginning at 11 a.m., St. Augustine in northeast Florida will be holding a commemoration by Pedro Menendez de Aviles at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park in St. Augustine. The Historic Florida Militia present the commemoration.

A processional with Pedro Menendez and his Spanish entourage (historically clad living history interpreters) march through the front gates of the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park with flags and musket firings. The procession leads to the Fountain of Youth’s Boathouse for a ceremony to commemorate the First Thanksgiving that occurred September 8, 1565, followed by a blessing.

This long-standing St. Augustine traditional experience has been modified to accommodate crowds with social distancing. Admission is $18 adults/$10 Children. St. Johns County resident admission $9 adults/$5 Children. For more information, visit https://hfm.club/event/first-thanksgiving.

Two weeks later, the annual  Sing Out Loud Music Festival will take place on three consecutive weekends, It features free musical performances at some of the area’s most inspirational locations. This year’s event takes place September 12&13, 19&20,  and 26&27 and will involves feature dozens of local musicians performing Virtual Sessions live-streamed from various places around Florida’s Historic Coast.

Most locations like Alpine Groves Park, Nocatee Preserve, The St. Augustine Amphitheatre, Faver-Dykes State Park, and Beluthahatchee Park are outdoor locations where visitors can spread out and explore the natural beauty of Florida’s Historic Coast at anytime.

The popular and diverse performers include Davis Loose and the Loose Cannons, The Wild Shiners, Katie Grace Helow, Ghost Tropic, Folk is People, Aslyn & The Naysayers, Half My Home, Emma Mosely, 86hope, Mental Boy, Sam Pacetti, The Florida Chamber Music Project,  and many others. All Sing Out Loud Music Festival Live-streaming performances are free.

And, through the month of September, everyone is invited to take part in a spiritual journey. Take a walk to save the Earth during the Season of Creation and renew your relationship with nature and engage in personal reflections and environmental acts of goodwill.  Laudato Si’ Creation Care Ministry of the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Augustine invites visitors and the community to take their own spiritual journey by choosing their own personal walking route.

There are many all along Florida’s Historic Coast from which to choose.  Register in advance, then upon completion of your walk, share your experience online and earn a Pilgrimage Certificate.
