Nick Saban Leads Bama To The School’s 18th National Championship

Anytime a team goes through a season with dominance and wins a championship in convincing fashion, there are a lot of “best ever” questions posed by media and fans.
But after seeing the 2020 Crimson Tide, there is no doubt that it is the best team in Alabama football history. And that’s saying something.
I watched every play of every game and never have I seen a team score with such ease. It got to the point that when Alabama did not score a touchdown, it was a disappointing drive. With Devonta Smith, Najee Harris, Mac Jones and a stone wall of an offensive line, it was a collection of outstanding talent but it also worked with near-perfect execution and was led by elite coaching.
It was so powerful that not even the mid-season loss of its most explosive player – Jaylen Waddle – affected it. Not one bit.
It was so powerful that not even the late-season loss of the best center in the country – Landon Dickerson – affected it in the College Football Playoffs.
It was so powerful that not even the second-half loss of the most dynamic player on the field – Smith slowed it down in the championship game.
It was so powerful that not even losing the head coach in one game and almost in another due to a positive and a false positive COVID test – Nick Saban – slowed it down.
Heck even the kicker didn’t miss a field goal or extra point all year.
Sure, the defense wasn’t up to traditional Alabama standards but it was good enough to win. In some games it was dominant and it only gave up seven points in the second half to a powerful Ohio State offense in the title game.
I had long thought Alabama’s best team was the 1979 squad. It went 12-0, won Paul “Bear” Bryant’s final National Championship and had a rare combination of a nasty defense with a point-producing offense.
But the 2020 team took it to another level.
