Sunshine nearly every day and endless summer.

Beaches, two great bays, beaches, a tourism destination island and nightlife among the best in the country.

This is San Diego and it is a top travel destination in the USA.

But when are best months to visit San Diego?

San Diego is a great city to visit anytime but the absolute best months for the weather are July, August and September, with other good months in March and April. In these months, the daytime temperatures by the coast at mid-70s and the sun is usually out if not by morning then by Noon.

The weather cools at night and drops into the mid- to low-60s. It is advisable to always have a light jacket or sweatshirt handy, even in the summertime.

Here’s a breakdown of San Diego’s climate and weather.

San Diego’s Weather

San Diego averages 325 days of sunshine a year. The temperatures are mild. Most days are in the mid 70s (by the coast anyway).

Any local will tell you to always have a jacket or sweatshirt handy starting around sunset. This is especially if you are at the ocean or the bay.

San Diego, like many places in California, has several microclimates. This means there are so many different areas – beaches, hills, mountains and deserts – that each has its own environment. Watch the local weather and you’ll see several different forecasts.

The is the also case in Los Angeles, by the way.

The coldest month is December when the daytime temperatures drop into the 60s and 50s or even upper 40s at night. But it’s also important to note that the cool summertime breeze turns chilly from November thru February and while your smartphone may show it’s sunny and 75, the wind chill is actually several degrees cooler.

San Diego Has A Desert Climate, Not A Tropical One

There is a myth that San Diego is a tropical climate. The beaches and palm trees paint the illusion that this is the Caribbean or South Pacific. In reality, San Diego is a desert right up to the ocean. This means it is warm in the daytime and cool at night. As a result, the temperatures fluctuate as much as 25 degrees between daytime and nighttime.
