Whilst we can all agree that last year’s Christmas was more stressful than this coming season, most of us can also concur that we can’t rest on our laurels just yet. The past year had more than its fair share of challenges, and we are almost past those challenges (with a few hiccups along the way), which makes us grateful. But if you are all set on having a better Christmas this year – and you should! – it doesn’t hurt to take a few precautionary measures so you can ensure your and everyone else’s safety. The fact is, you can have a wonderful holiday with a few key considerations. Here, then, is how you can have the best Christmas in 2021 whilst still staying safe.
- Get that jab – and encourage your family to do so, too
Our jabs are one of the foremost things that can keep us safe, and whether you are set on getting your first shot, your second shot, or your booster shots, this should be a priority. Vaccines have proven effective at reducing the transmission of Covid-19, and even if you catch the virus once you’ve had two shots, you can lower your chance of transmitting the virus within your family by up to 27 per cent. But don’t neglect your flu shot – many haven’t been adequately exposed to the flu virus because we haven’t had much chance to go out and socialise. But this increases our risk of getting ill, so if you haven’t had your flu shot yet, it may be wise to do so to have more peace of mind that your holidays will go well.
- Give hibernation a chance – and have fun whilst you’re at it
It may also be a good idea to do a bit of hibernating this Christmas, and if you don’t want to be too lonely, do it within your bubble. Instead of going to a dozen parties this season, why not limit it to two or three? Better yet, you can make hibernation more exciting by going away for a spell – you can, for instance, rent a home somewhere like Cornwall or the Cotswolds, and there are numerous large houses to rent available in different areas that are perfect for you and your brood or group of friends. It’s the perfect setting for you to relax, and the great thing about it is you can have plenty of fun with the people you’re most likely to be with!
- Do your shopping online
You may be looking forward to shopping for Christmas gifts for your family and friends, but one way you can enjoy yourself whilst still staying safe is to do it online. Malls and shops will be crowded, even with restrictions, so it’s best to be safe than sorry and buy everything online. It may even come with more benefits, such as online promos and offers.
- Take care of yourself
This may be easier said than done, but a few little things can add up and make a significant impact. For instance, you can indulge and satisfy your palate during Christmas lunch or supper, but watch what you eat and go for nutritious fare for the rest of the time. Sleep as much as you can, get some exercise, and create or build something. These can make a difference, and you can have a holiday that’s even more memorable than the last.
