Do you like silly events, an “excuse” to drink a bunch of beers on a beach with thousands of fun people?

Well we have one for you. It’s the Gulf Coast’s Largest Beach Party – the Interstate Mullet Toss at the Flora-Bama bar on the, well, Florida-Alabama state line.
Held the last weekend of April each year it’s bikinis and board shorts, beer and cocktails, music, in and and out of a famous beach bar and on the beach itself (yes, there it’s legal to drink on the sand; those folks are way more cool than the stodgy ones here in California) tho you do have to be 21 in order to partake in that part of the event.
Beach party. Check. Beach bar involvement. Check. Bikinis, board shorts and beer. Check. Read on about this event that has it all!
So exactly what is the Interstate Mullet Toss? It is, quite simply, tossing a fish called a mullet onto the sand. The one who tosses it the fartherest wins, tho I’m not sure what kind of prize you get. Free beer maybe!?
Tossing is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., with the final tossing taking place at the end of it. There’s a $15 fee to enter and even if you suck you get a t-shirt, which probably cost more than $15 at the bar anyway.
Told you it’s a silly event! But those are often the most fun, right?!
The host is the Flora-Bama bar ($10 cover charge each day) and the event takes place on the beach in front of it. This year’s event is Aprl 22-24.
Now you may think a mullet is a really bad haircut and while that’s true, this mullet is a fish. But there are a few mullet haircuts, as well, in addition to the fish.
Want to go? Of course you do, right!? You better plan a year in advance and grab a hotel room way ahead of time because they are gone as quickly as kegs are emptied at the Flora-Bama.
