McPrice Myers, a Paso Robles (CA) winery, has released five new wines after its fall 2022 harvest.
They are:
• 2020 The Brightest Star – named in honor of Venus, who has been a great partner to me since we acquired the estate in 2017 and together have shaped the vision for the winery. As for the wine itself, this Zinfandel-dominant blend from Paper Street Vineyard sells out incredibly fast. Paper Street Vineyard is some of the most interesting and exotic Zinfandel in Paso Robles, and I have been picking up more acreage at Paper Street so that I can offer a bit more of this wine each year. Aged in neutral barriques.
• 2020 Cuvée Kristina – it’s not often I’m able to make back-to-back vintages of this blend for my wife, so this is a special year. The fruit is from The Estate, Larner, and a little bit from Les Galets Vineyards. Yes, *that* Les Galets – I was able to get a small amount of Syrah off the site, but this is truly the last of this fruit. 15% whole cluster and 90% new French oak; the wine was able to stand up to a higher percentage of oak this year.
• 2020 Paper Street Cuvée – I showcase the best of Paper Street Vineyard with this blend. This site boasts high elevation, steep hillsides, and chalk-white soils that are perfect for bright, balanced, and diverse wines. 20% whole cluster, 35% new French oak.
• 2020 Sel de la Terre – this is my ninth vintage of 100% Paso Robles Grenache, named “Salt of the Earth” from my grandfather. This year the fruit is from The Estate and Paper Street Vineyards. 20% whole cluster, aged in neutral puncheons.
• 2020 Fait Accompli – Paso Robles is known for being an amazing climate for growing Rhônes and Cabernet Sauvignon, and this is a blend from Paper Street and The Estate Vineyards. The Cab, Syrah, and Petit Verdot coming off of these vineyards are too good to do anything other than its own bottling, which is why it is a Fait Accompli. 10% whole cluster, 45% new French oak.
“The fall harvest arrived early this year – 22 days early to be precise!,” said winemaker and founder McPrice “Mac” Myers. “The fruit coming in looks gorgeous, although I am seeing lower yields this year. The early harvest and low tonnage are due to our prolonged drought and the consistently hot weather we have had this spring and summer.
“You should know that the 2022 vintage will be high in quality and low in availability. ”
Myers also announced the winery has paired with charity organization must! Charities, and will donate one dollar per select bottle of wine sold. He also stated the winery has broken ground on its new tasting room.
