Can You Be Too Fat Or Ugly To Get Into A Nightclub?

So can you be too fat or ugly to get into a nightclub?

The answer is yes. Actually it’s more “of course,” because in some places, if you don’t have “the look,” you don’t get past the velvet ropes.

What is “the look” you ask? Well, you must be well dressed. No shorts, ballcaps or ragged jeans or t-shirts. Dress to impress. Being young helps; most clubs have people in their 20s and 30s. If you’re in your late 40s or 50s – and it shows – you better pull out your wallet and be prepared to slip the doorman some cash.

Heck, I have trouble getting into nightclubs because I’m a guy.  Meanwhile, cute girls in short dresses with heels that go click-click-click on the ground walk up and get right into the place.

Is this right? Could it be considered profiling? Not really and yes, but the club is a business and not a government operation so it can set whatever door policy it wants in place. I’m not saying it’s right, I’m just saying that’s the way it is, the way it’s always been and the way it always will be at some nightclubs. If you are fat and ugly yo are likely at least have to wait until the  thinner and better-looking people get in, and it also depends on the night, the bouncer and your attitude.

Now, profiling based someone’s color or ethnic origin should not ever be part of the equation at a nightclub or anywhere for that matter. But if you’re overweight or don’t exactly qualify for runway modeling and magazine covers, then the doorman may decide to hold you there for a while or flat out tell you it’s not happening, usually while providing no reason for it.

Most clubs also have multiple doormen and several different lines, so if you go up to the VIP line and try to get in then you’ll be sent back to the average person’s line.

And here’s another thing: you must also have a good attitude; giving the bouncer a hard time or demanding to get in will have you standing there until you leave.

Personally, I don’t like go out ever wondering whether or not I will get into a place so I have really been much of a clubber. I’m much more of a pubber. But when it comes go getting into a nightclub, sometimes size does matter.
