Disco Kings Provide Entertaining Contrast As Opening Act

Editor’s Note: This is a review of the Kool & The Gang concert to open up for the Van Halen North American reuntion tour with David Lee Roth in 2022.
It may seem to be an odd pairing, like a chardonnay with a steak. But it works.
Kool & The Gang – yes, that’s 70’s band that was at the forefront of the 70s disco dominance – is opening for 80s rockers Van Halen during the latter’s 2012 North American tour that runs from February thru May.
The cool thing about Kool & The Gang is that they are cool.
Fun.
They get you moving.
They get you smiling.
They get you in the fun frame of mind for the main act.
Kool & The Gang brings a big band element to the tour, complete with dueling saxaphones (alto vs. tenor). Most of the original members are still in the band – including Kool himself – and they make anyone of age think of those good times walking into discos to dance with, and pick up on, the opposite sex.
Yet people of the more modern age know and like the songs, as well. After all, with Kool & The Gang, it’s always “Ladies Night.”
So Just Get Down On It and Celebrate!
