Haliey Welch, a small-town girl from Tennessee who was a minimum-wage worker at a factory, gained instant fame and the financial rewards that come with it based on a few words during a street interview with Tim & Dee TV, during CMA Fest in Nashville.
Since then, she has created a company to sell merchandise, hired an agent, has fan clubs on Instagram and TikTok, has been on podcasts, launched her own Talk Tuah podcast, has been making paid appearances, been backstage at concerts, on the front row for prizefights and thrown out the first pitch at a New York Mets game.
With all this, and more sure to come, the Hawk Tuah girl is proving that not only do blondes have more fun, they make more money than girls of other hair color, too.
Welch is a cute blonde and that certainly has something to do with her success and she is literally cashing in on the moment. Were she a brunette her moment would likely not have had the same effect on people. Were she an ugly brunette then she never would have been anything more than a quick chuckle on a long video.
Similarly, if Olivia Dunne were anything but a blonde then she might be getting a lot of views but she most certainly would not be drawing crowds of panting adolescent boys to her gynmastics meets, she would not be in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and get interviewed on the Today Show. And she most certainly would not have earned $9 million to date. She’s a college gymnast, not a TV or movie star. One with a true blonde ambition.
The same holds true for another athlete, Anna Kournikova, who made a lot more money from advertisers – one famous billboard had her pushing a sports bra next to the words “Only The Balls Should Bounce” – than she ever did on a tennis court. Jan Stephenson got men to pay attention to women’s golf because she’s blonde and pretty.
Even Madonna did not become Madonna until she dyed her hair blonde.
As proof, look at all the blondes on TikTok. There are college cheerleaders, blondes posing while doing all sorts of things (or nothing at all), blondes giving “how to date me advice” and even a blonde playing rock cover songs on an electric guitar. Blondes are as popping up like toast, to use an old Southern expression.
So Haliey Welch is simply taking advantage of what’s there for her. Like Livvy Dunne and others before her, The Hawk Tuah girl is realizing her blonde ambition.
