The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has isssued a statement on the Donald Trump-led ICE and US Customs and Border Protection immigration raids taking place across Los Angeles.
It is from CEO Steve Nissan and was sent to members of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. It reads as follows:
Recent immigration enforcement actions have had a detrimental effect on the business and tourism sector in Hollywood. We call on federal officials to focus their immigration enforcement on criminals illegally residing in our community and ask our local elected officials to work with federal agencies on establishing a plan of action going forward. Immigrants are crucial to California’s economic vitality, and we therefore ask all levels of government to work together towards comprehensive and compassionate immigration policies.
Current actions are unfortunately causing fear in many law-abiding families. Children are reluctant to go to school, families are declining medical appointments, and small businesses are suffering due to a lack of such policy and coordinated and focused enforcement.
The only way to avoid further disruption is the adoption and implementation of a fair, equitable, and comprehensive plan for immigration reform with business leaders, law enforcement, labor and government working together towards that end and we call upon our leaders to begin that process.
Thank you,
Steve Nissen
