Canadians love drinking beer and need no excuse to do so, but Canada Day gives them the opportunity to drink it in the daytime as well as into the night.
Canada Day, which is July 1, celebrates the creation of Canada as a country. It’s the Great White North’s equivalent of the 4th of July.
And, like July 4, there are celebrations in every city and town in the land. Which for Canadians means “hey, we get to drink beer all day!” And Canadians can drink a LOT of beer. It’s as much their national pastime as hockey.
This is not a criticism of Canadians, by the way. In fact, PubClub.com raises a glass in “cheers to them for we love going to Canada and drinking beer with Canadians!
Toronto has the biggest celebrations for Canada Day. The parties take place all over town with the official one at Mel Latman’s Square on Yonge Street. It includes a pair of concerts and fireworks (8-10:30 p.m.).
In addition to beer, many Canadians start the day with a Caesars, a disgusting north-of-the-boarder variety of a Bloody Mary that’s made with clamato juice instead of tomato juice. Warning to Americans in Canada: Avoid this drink. The American system cannot adjust to it.
Anyway, Happy Canada Day, Canadians!
