American Junkie Hermosa Beach Extends Friday Happy Hour To 9 PM

South Bay Bar Deserves A Cheers For This Brilliant Move

Here’s some good news for South Bay bar junkies.

American Junkie has extended its outstanding Happy Hour on Fridays until 9 p.m.!

That makes it the latest Happy Hour in the Beach Cities. Patrick Molloy’s goes until 8, from Monday thru Friday. Sharkeez goes until 7. Then again, Sharkeez owner Greg Newman is not one to sit back and say “hmmm” whenever another bar does something successful. He acts.

But back to Junkie.

This fun bar on the Hermosa Beach Pier is killin’ it with its Happy Hours. It has $3 drinks – that’s well drinks, wine and all draft beers, including the high-end ones of Stella Artois, Goose Island Honker’s Ale and Longboard Lager, as well as bottles of the super-high octane Bud Light Platinum – plus $5 specialty cocktails.

It’s $8 for those large margaritas with the small beer in them (called Beergaritas) you see lots of people drinking, as well as the spiked energy drink in a large glass shaped like a trophy known as Junkie Cups.

I can tell you that the weekend Happy Hour has taken the South Bay by storm. Getting a drink – especially a quality beer – for 3 bucks is a great deal, and when it happens on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in a thirty area like Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach well, you’ve got yourself dialed into success.

Plus, the bar is cool inside and out. It has a large indoor-outdoor patio, something that for some reason I always fail to comprehend is not nearly prevalent enough in the Beach Cities.

The bartenders are great and friendly and no matter how busy the bar is, the wait for a drink is never too long.  Sometimes, it’s so fast it catches you off guard because you’re assumed it might be a while and you have started a spirited conversation with others at the bar.

I don’t want to ignore the waitresses in my compliments, it’s just that I usually get my beers from the bartenders because I prefer to stand or lean to sitting. But service has been quick and on the spot when I have been at tables during the weekend Happy Hours.

So here’s the scoop: American Junkie’s Happy Hour goes 3-7 p.m., six days a week. On Fridays, it’s 3-9 p.m. It’s also in effect whenever the Lakers, Clippers and Kings are playing.

When you take all that into account, it’s Happy Hour at Junkie about as often as when it’s not Happy Hour.

And that deserves a big “cheers.”
