Mug Night on Thursdays Would Make Homer Simpson A Regular Patron
If you like beer – and lots of it – but don’t like spending a lot of money, then the weekly Mug Night at the Underground Pub in Hermosa Beach is for you.
Every Thursday evening, from 5-10 p.m., it’s beer drinker’s heaven. Buy a 22-ounce mug and feel it up for just $3 – yes, THREE dollars! – of Bud or Bud Light. Or splurge and make it Stella for only $4. (What, 22 ounces of Stella Artois for $4!? Awesome!!!)
Were Homer Simpson a real person, he would be hanging out here instead of Moe’s.
Go early and enjoy the hijinks of the regulars who come off the beach after sand football to play darts or pool. Or join the masses who start to roll through the door at 9 or 9:30.
It’s a bit reminiscent of the days when people actually went to Manhattan Beach Hennessey’s in droves; this, too, was a Thursday night and it featured dollar drafts and one of the most socially active scenes in South Bay bar history.
There’s also a bit of a good old-school college bar atmosphere, a feeling enhanced by Underground Pub’s wood booths and well-worn wooden floor that would suffer not at all from a little spillage of a $3 Budweiser.
Hungry? The food special is Shepherd’s Pie for $9.95. It’s quite tasty and matches nice with the beer. Plus, you’ll probably have enough left over for lunch on Friday. There are also Happy Hour appetizers until 7.
If you’re in it for the long haul and want a little change of scenery without leaving the building, pop over to the Chelsea Pub, down the short hallway past the loos (English speak there, you know, the restrooms). It’s a cool lounge attached to Underground.
So go get mugged at the Underground Pub.
