Presidential Cocktails, An Obama Burger and A ‘Sloppy Joe’ Featured at D.C.’s BLT Steak Restaurant
The Presidential inauguration is worthy of a cheers, right?
It’s a massive party in D.C., a night of galas, gatherings and celebrations. So why not have a couple of specialty drinks, one for President Barack Obama and another for Vice President Joe Biden, to toast?
That’s just what BLT Steak in the nation’s capitol has done. A favorite stop of President Obama and the first lady, and just a 10-minute walk from the White House (for the rest of us; we don’t have the luxury of a Presidential motorcade), it has created two drinks honoring the President and Vice President.
For President Obama, there’s the “Yes We Cantaloupe,” taken from his “Yes We Can” campaign. And for Vice President Biden, there is the “Joe Mac.”
But BLT Steak doesn’t end there; it has also created an Obama Burger and a Sloppy Joe (some would joke this is perfectly named) for the Vice President.
First, let’s start with the cocktails ($12 each, available thru Jan. 26):
Yes We Cantaloupe (President Obama)
1.5oz Appleton White Rum
.75oz Cayenne Cantaloupe Puree
.5 Maraschino Liqueur
.5 Lime Juice.
Combine Ingredients into mixing glass, add ice and shake. Strain into Martini glass. Garnish w/julienne lime peel (or lime twist.
The Joe Mac (Vice President Biden)
.75 oz Dancing Pines Bourbon
.75 oz Drambuie
4 oz. American pilsner (currently Brooklyn Pilsner)
lemon wedge
Orange bitters (for those who didn’t vote for Obama/Biden)
Obama Burger ($28)
8 oz. American Kobe burger, roasted pineapple and speck.
Vice President Biden’s is a Sloppy Joe ($23)
8 oz. CAB burger, sloppy Joe and melted American cheese.
Okay, pricey. But it’s the inauguration.You’ve got to live a little.
