What You Need To Know To Party Safely After You Are Fully Vaccinated

When I was waiting to get my second COVID-19 vaccination (Pfizer, as everyone I tell seems to want to know), a nurse told a person next to me that they should wait a certain period of time before drinking alcohol after getting the shot.
Funny, nobody said anything to me. Perhaps it’s because they could tell I’m a veteran. Or the fact that I was wearing my PubClub.com shirt with the distinctive martini glass logo on it.
Whatever the case, I was giving no warnings in this area and in fact when I exited I mentioned that I might go straight out for a beer. Or a margarita. “Oh, you should,” the girl enthusiastically responded.
So I did and had a a great night out in town.
But that was the first day. The real test was the second. I had people tell me – including a young and healthy manager at a popular bar – say they have been wiped out the next day for a full day after receiving the second vaccine.
Right now, tho, I am fine. I am in my second day as I write this and I have had a couple of drinks. And to tell you the truth, I’m feeling better and more energetic than I was before I had any alcohol.
During the day, I felt a bit lethargic and took about a two-hour afternoon nap on the couch. There’s nothing really unusual about that, tho, for as some of my close friends will tell you, I enjoy taking afternoon power naps. They are the savior of a PubClubber who is always on the move.
I did tho, feel a bit funky. So in the name of research I went to a local bar and had a couple of beers. I could tell I wasn’t my usual perky self – much more mellow than lively – but there were no “oh oh, I’m about to fall over now and fall asleep on the table” moments.
So my immediate research tells me that yes, it’s okay to have alcohol after your second vaccine shot.
However, I do want to caution that the shot has different effects on different people. It took PubClubette Ashley three days to get back her full energy. Women, it seems, are more strongly affected by the second shot than men.
There are also many other factors to consider, such as do you exercise a lot; I run or ride a bike four to five times a week. Are you obese or have any allergic reactions to medication or have any pre-existing conditions?
So while I am saying yes, drinking alcohol is fine after receiving the second vaccine shot, know yourself and your body before heading to the bar and pounding down the Buds and doing tequila shots.
Cheers!
