The World’s Largest Techno Dance Party Has Event Dates For 2022

Not even the re-opening of Switzerland to vaccinated tourists could save the Zurich Street Parade.
The World’s Largest Techno Dance Party, as it is called, has been canceled for 2021. The next schedule date is Aug. 13, 2020, which will be the event’s 30th anniversary.
“We have hoped, planned and fought until the very end. Not surprisingly, but with a heavy heart, we are now forced to cancel the Street Parade on 14 August 2021 on official orders due to the Covid 19 crisis,” the organizers posted on the event’s website, www.streetparade.com.
“We understand this decision and are confident that we will be able to hold our 30th anniversary on Saturday 13 August 2022.”
The street parade is a mobile dance party with a parade of floats going through the center of Old Town in Zurich. The 30-plus of these “Love Machines” have DJs on them and pump out the music on huge (and loud) sound machines. There’s confetti and people are reaching out at them like folks in Mardi Gras parades reaching out for beads.
Hundreds of thousands of music-loving partiers fill and dance in the streets.
And while the parade is on a Saturday, there are hundreds of parties – both large and small – in the area from Friday thru Sunday nite (or actually Monday morning).
The event’s motto is “Colours Of Unity” and that is shown in the many colorful – and wild – wardrobe worn by those in the crowd.
It is an incredible scene and for anyone who goes to it, puts to rest the old (and wrong) saying that the Swiss are boring.
The upside to the 2021 event being canceled is that you have plenty of time to gather your friend and plan to attend the 2022 parade. The Zurich Tourism board’s website can help with that planning and booking a hotel room.
