Things To Do Include A Big Bear Splash And Free Concerts In Lake Arrowhead, Santa Monica & Redondo Beach
It is so hot in Southern California that the National Weather Service is issuing Severe Weather Alerts and temperatures in the desert areas are around 115 degrees.
But there are places to go and things to do to beat the heat throughout the area. There’s even a number of fun event happening in cooler places, including several free festival with live music. Here’s PubClub.com’s picks for hot weekend events in places that are not so hot when it comes to the weather.
1.) MAKE A SPLASH IN BIG BEAR LAKE
Take a splash in cool Big Bear Lake. In fact, leap into it from the Tarzan Boat, a floating platform with a platform, trampolines and a “Tarzan swing.”

3.) SANTA MONICA SOULSTICE BLOCK PARTY
This is a free event on Sunday with 18 bands on six stages, a house tech expo, a wine tent and a beer tent. It takes place along Main Street from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. The beach is about a 10-minute walk away so if you get too hot here, have on your bathing suit and take a dash to a splash in the ocean.
4.) SUMMER FESTIVAL, REDONDO BEACH
Another free festival takes place in Redondo Beach. It features arts and craft booths, plus a small beer garden with some good local and tribute bands.

5.) THE BEACHES
The weather at the beaches is mild, even June Gloom until mid-afternoon. Temperatures will rise in into the low 80s during the daytime – and that can be hot if there’s no breeze – but the water temperature is a cooling upper 60s. Be sure and check with lifeguards about any potential dangerous water conditions but with little breeze the water is calm.
Just be sure and brings sand socks, or don’t take off your flip flops while walking on the sand, because the sand is hot and can burn tender feet. If you plan on staying thru the sunset – which is highly recommended – bring a light jacket or thin sweatshirt.
