Summertime Schedule Has Several Tournaments & Hot Happenings
The summer’s biggest and best beach party in the Los Angeles South Bay Beach Cities – the whacky dress-up beach volleyball tournament known as Smackfest is not just on for 2021 but it has already set a record.
It sold out in record time, less than 8 hours.
So if you want to play you had better find yourself a team and pronto.
“Smackfest has become the ultimate So Cal lifestyle event, combining sand, volleyball, sun and fun – and all the credit goes to YOU … the wonderful people who play every year,” stated organizer Bill Sigler of Smackfest Sports. YOU make this event the best on the beach!
“2020 was a tough year for all and the first in 26 years without Smackfest. With that in mind, we are working hard at making up for last year and then some so get ready – it’s gonna be ridiculous!”
It will take place on Saturday, July 31 at the Hermosa Beach Pier. It is free and open to the public to attend.
And it’s not the only beach volleyball event in town. Here’s a rundown of other events happening in Hermosa Beach this summer.
Summer Solstice Beach Volleyball Tournament
Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year and to celebrate, 33 North Promotions is putting on the Summer Solstice beach volleyball tournament. It is set for Saturday, June 19.
And instead of starting at something like a 8 in the morning like so many other tournaments, the first serves are not until 11 a.m., This give you plenty of time to sleep in after partying deep the previous night.
Like Smackfest, costumes are encouraged. According to pagan folklore, evil spirits would appear on the summer solstice. To ward off evil spirits, people would wear protective garlands of herbs and flowers, dress like Shakespeare in Midsummer’s Night’s Dream or wear something that reminds you of summer! (Still have those 80s OP shorts?)
There are “fun” and “competitive” divisions (beach volleyball party veterans know exactly what this teams and the cost is $120 per team. The entry fee includes an event 3-shirt and there are prizes prizes from Mich Ultra, Smack Sportswear, Crossnet and more.
Naturally there is a post-tournament party and also naturally, it’s at the Sharkeez rooftop deck with a DJ, as well as specials on Mich Ultra, Bud Light, Mich Ultra Seltzer, Jagermeister, Grey Goose, Cazedores, R6 Distillery, and 20% off food for participants.
